Wave: Day one Updates!

We just made a stop off at a Walgreens in Cypress / Garden Grove.
Much to my excitement and disappointment this is where the original So
Cal raceway used to be. Same parking lot but now it is a Walgreens
and LA Fitness sports club. Not much is online about the old So Cal
Raceway but it was the place during the mid 90’s. Associated B2, T2
and Losi XX all came from those days. The infamous Kinwald switch
from Associated to Losi happened at that track. Hodapp also became a
driving star during those days.

Heading out to the beach was relaxing. Everyone at the beach seems to
be one step ahead of everyone else in terms of relaxment and
enjoyment. Let’s slide them into the list of people who have it
figured out.

Arriving at OCRC at 11:00am we found the doors open and we began
unpacking. Richard Lake and the guys from AZ brought over the JC tent
so the sun and elements would not be a factor this weekend. 🙂

Friday is wave practice and club race night so things never quit
moving at OCRC.

After a few rental rides from Frank Root and Brent Thielke I was ready
to hit the track. Although I did not run until the first qualifier my
buggy was actually pretty decent and despite braking in tires I pulled
a 4th in round 1. Steven Hartson took the heat race with Chris Jaroz
took second with Thielke 3rd. It took me awhile to hit the track due
mostly to mounting tires and a complete B4 beauty check. It still
needs the updated setup and new speedo. By the end of the weekend this
buggy will be ready for the Super Cup. More work…

Zach was able to get all 3 of his cars out on the track during
practice. Awesome! He remained a factor all night but a mistake here
or there certainly changes things. He looks good, just a summer
vacation away from knocking on Hartsons door. :).

Cavelieri stopped by for a photo shoot and driving advise. He likes
to punch it at OCRC he says but it didn’t work for me.

Round 2 Hartson checked out and ran another fine run. Can you say
Wave favorite?

I somehow magically pulled a 2nd in round 2 and qualified 3rd on my
2nd run on the track. Not bad for a Florida guy. Competiton will be
tight during the actual event. Some guys choose not to run the club
race.

More to come….
