Daytona Beach East Coast R/C Club played host to the first round of the RCsignup / JConcepts Super Cup 2009 Fall Session and with 103 entries racing proved to be fierce!

This was my first time returning to Daytona since last year’s Super Cup event and what a difference a year makes! Last years track was relatively flat and super high-bite with no rain in sight and this year we arrive to a rain soaked nitro inspired track (elevation changes, big jumps, and whoops). The track crew busted their tales Friday night and Saturday morning getting the track ready for the morning practice session and as expected the track quickly fluffed up and Goosebumps became the easy choice for most racers. The track layout was very cool and fun to drive, but the extreme size of some of the obstacles made things very difficult and cause some serious breakage.

Round 1 prove to be a little tricky as we found ourselves running in mixed conditions between fluff and hard packed. Most racers stuck with Goosebumps and just tried to put in some clean runs knowing the track would most likely yield faster times in round 2.

By round 2 the track dried out significantly and was more consistent. It was time to bolt on the Double Dees and let it rip! Unfortunately traction never came up in the 2nd round and the track was really slick. Not bothered by the slick conditions, the following drivers took the TQ honors:

Stock Buggy: Gary Fulp

Mod Buggy: Jason Ruona

Stock Truck: Dave Bowser

Mod Truck: Sherwin Diaz

Stock Slash: Leon McIntosh

Mod 4wd: Jason Ruona

Mod SCT: John Faulkner

After a short break and some track maintenance we were ready for the main events! With the smell of wintergreen in the air everyone readied for battle.

Stock buggy became the DB show. Dave Bowser and his JConcepts equipped B4 taking the lead early and never looking back. Dave Duncan and Gary Fulp also rocking JC equipped B4s round out 2nd and 3rd place.

Mod buggy was close early between Jason Ruona and Zach “California” Mote, but Jason kept the pressure on and pulled away for an easy win with his JConcepts equipped B4. Zach and Ryan Eckert finished 2nd and 3rd respectfully.

Stock truck was dominated by Scott Delfino. After a big mistake on lap 2 by TQ Dave Bowser, Scott took the lead and never looked back. Dave and JR Wagner took the 2nd and 3rd spots on the podium.

Mod Truck looked like a stunt driving demo show. Sherwin Diaz started out early with mistakes on the 2nd and 3rd lap allowing Leon McIntosh to get away early. Lap 7 was Leon’s turn for some stunt driving, which leads to a popped ballcup. This allowed me to take the lead after some early stunt driving of my own. In the end, I held on for the win with my JConcepts equipped T4. Sherwin and Leon finished it off in 2nd and 3rd place.

Stock Slash was a yawner with Leon dominating the class once again. I think its time for some breakout rules in the stock slash class or non-factory drivers. Leon’s time was less than a second off the winning time in Mod SCT class…Time to bump!

Mod 4wd was once again the Jason Ruona show! Jason with his JConcepts equipped B44 lead from start to finish with really no challenge from anyone. Brett Kingsbury and Ryan Eckert rounded out the top 3.

Mod SCT was a dominating performance by the one and only “Big 12-E” aka John Faulkner. John was untouchable with his JConcepts equipped SC10 and lead wire to wire with Scott Delfino and Mike Horn taking 2nd and 3rd.

Thanks again for everyone’s support and look forward to the next Super Cup.
