Round 5 of the Kenny Brosh Racing League

Event: KBRL Series race 5
Location: Competition Hobbies Tucson, Arizona
Race Reporter: Jake Thayer

Last weekend the fifth round of the Kenny Brosh Racing League Series was held at Competition Hobbies in Tucson Arizona. The KBRL has quickly become the largest electric series in Arizona. In the Open 2wd Buggy class JConcepts Ace Ryan Maifield used JConcept’s Bar Codes (Blue) as his tire of choice, to attack the high bite dirt at Competition Hobbies. To ensure that the rubber stayed glued to the track, Maifield added JConcepts new “Closed Cell” Profiled inserts. Maifield was unbeatable all day long, taking the TQ and win in the 10-minute main event. Multiple World and National Champion Brian Kinwald was on hand running JConcepts tires as well. “The Dirt” put up the second fastest time of the weekend, and finished just seconds behind Maifield. Team Losi driver Billy Fischer was in attendance as well with the brand new “22” 2wd buggy. With problems early in the day for Billy in qualifying, he had to bump up from the b main, and would charge hard early to take the last podium spot. When the dust had settled, JConcepts would take the top two spots on the podium for Open 2wd buggy.

Round five of the KBRL series was also the second round of Short Course Hobbies’ “Triple Crown Series” which consists of three races, SRS, Competition Hobbies, and Canyon Vista Raceway. This three race series within the KBRL, pays a nice 700 dollars to the driver that accumulates the most points at these races. With money on the line, the racing was very intense. Brian Kinwald was untouchable throughout qualifying; TQ’ing both rounds on JConcepts Bar Codes (Green). JConcept’s driver Jake Thayer rolled off in the second position on Bar Codes (Green) as well. With a win months earlier at SRS, Thayer knew that a win here would lock up the 700-dollar bonus. At the start Thayer made a wild pass in the tracks narrow chicane to take the lead away from Kinwald. Thayer would go on to lead the next few laps until a crash would hand the lead back to Kinwald. The two would stay bumper to bumper with Kinwald taking the win, and taking the series to the last race at Canyon Vista, January 22nd. JConcepts would once again capture the top two spots on the podium, with Fischer coming in third.
