Date: August 21, 2011
Venue: Elburn Lions Park – Elburn, IL

On August 21st I attended the Elburn Days race in Elburn, IL. This race is unique in that the track is built onsite in the park for the annual Elburn Days fair. Given that it’s held at the fairgrounds, it’s a great opportunity to show hundreds of non-RC people throughout the day what racing is all about.

I got to the track early Sunday morning to get a jump start on learning the track and finish breaking in two new engines. The track was a bit damp in the morning, so I ran JConcepts blue compound Crowbars on my 1/8 buggy and blue compound Elevated Bead Subcultures on my truggy.

I ran this same setup in the first round of qualifying and finished that round 1st in buggy and 2nd in truggy. For the second qualifier the track had dried out, so I switched to blue Subcultures on the buggy. Both the buggy and truggy were great during the second qualifier, so I made no changes for the main. I finished qualifying with the TQ spot for truggy, and 2nd overall for buggy.

My start in the truggy main was a bit rough, but I was able to work my way back up to the front within the first 4 laps, and didn’t look back from there. I finished 1st in truggy. For the truggy main I used a JConcepts MBX-6T Punisher Body, JC Subcultures mounted on Elevated Bead Mono Max-ups wheels, a JC high downforce wing and JConcepts locking wheel nuts.

The buggy main was next, so I had to keep my focus on. In buggy I took the lead after the 2nd lap, and was able to hold the lead until the end of the race. For the buggy main I used a JConcepts MBX-6 Punisher Body, JC Subcultures mounted on Mono Max-ups wheels, a JC high downforce wing and JC locking wheel nuts.

All in all it was a very successful day with the double win. It was also a blast meeting lots of interested spectators, answering their questions and exposing them to the hobby/sport.
