26th Annual Winter Mid West Championships – Qualifying

JConcepts is in Columbus Ohio for the 150th annual Winter Mid West Championships. Okay, it’s not really the 150th, it’s the 26th running of this classic in central Ohio. As with the past few years, the event is being held at the Ohio RC factory, about 45 minutes south of Columbus.

The track is fast, with the normal CRC effects of rollers, and rhythm lanes making a challenging track. What is normally the case here, a fun track to drive, but hard to go fast, consistently fast for the entire run. Then the tire challenge, with the large turnout, the track sometimes dries out throughout the day. Even though it is indoors, it is very weather dependent. New tires are not fast, so you need to have a few runs on a few different sets to be prepared for the qualifiers on Friday, and Saturday.

Thursday was an all day practice, with a timed final round to seat you into the heats for the qualifying rounds. Friday has gotten underway right on the scheduled time, with 357 entries, and 33 full heats, every race has 11 or 12 cars, it will be a hectic day.

The JConcepts team has many of the drivers at the front of the field, and we will see if they can get in the good runs to be in the triple A main’s on Sunday.
