2015 Cactus Classic – The Smoothies

Maifield_Champ2015 began a new era for the 29th annual Cactus Classic. The long-standing location in downtown Scottsdale, AZ relocated to central Phoenix and is now a part of a huge complex that contains go karts, an arcade, slot cars, hobby shop and a cafe. The new Hobbytown/SRS has a large indoor track that contains tons of clay which was kept damp throughout the event and gave drivers high-grip conditions which was perfect for the new JConcepts Smoothies.

In the Stock and Super Stock classes, JConcepts was well represented with many drivers running Smoothies all weekend long.

Abe Khalil TQ’d Stock Truck with JConcepts and went on to win the A Main. Kyle Layton had a great weekend in 2wd Stock Buggy and 2wd Stock Short Course, taking 3rd overall in both those classes. Kurt Wenger TQ’d the 4wd Super Stock 13.5 Buggy class and went on to finish 3rd overall running Smoothies and the Finnisher body. Alex Krieg TQ’d 2wd 17.5 Buggy with his JConcepts equipped X Factory X-6 Cubed.

In the Modified classes, JConcepts had several drivers in the A Mains, the new Smoothies for Truck and SCT had a great race debut.

Ryan Maifield takes the final round TQ in Mod 2wd Stadium Truck with his new TLR 22T 2.0 running the brand new Smoothies for Truck along with a prototype JConcepts Finnisher body. Ryan would qualify 2nd overall but put on a commanding performance in the mains, winning A1 and A2 to take the win.

Maifield also took the final round TQ in Mod 2wd Short Course running the soon to be released SCT Smoothies. Qualifying 2nd overall, Ryan duplicated his amazing run from Truck, taking the overall win in A2. Dustin Evans, also running the Smoothies for SCT would finish 3rd overall.

Overall it was a great debut for the new JConcepts Smoothies, the damp indoor clay made for a lot of traction and JConcepts was there with the easy button having tires ready straight from the package for this type of surface.

A big thanks to the track crew at SRS for their hard work all weekend long keeping the track consistent. Also thanks to Scotty Ernst, keeping everything moving and exciting for the spectators and racers alike. Thanks to LiveRC for the great coverage and keeping everyone updated with the JConcepts Instagram Report. We look forward to the 30th annual event next year.
