2015 Summer Scorcher

track1On July 18th and 19th, drivers from all over the southeast headed down to Savannah, GA to one of the oldest tracks in the country, Phil Hurd Raceway, for the annual Summer Scorcher. With a little over 160 entries, it was shaping up to be a great event with a very fitting name. With the temperature reaching 97 degrees and a heat index of 103, it was HOT!!

Both 1/10 electric and 1/8 scale nitro/electric would be racing and JConcepts tires would prove to be the tire of choice by most of the racers. Starting with the Kids SCT class, Chase Keeton would take the overall TQ by TQing two of the three rounds. He was running JConcepts Lil Chasers in green compound. Chase would also go on to win the A-Main followed by his brother, Brandon Keeton, taking second place. In 2wd open buggy and 4wd open buggy, Tim Smith would take the overall TQ by TQing the first two rounds running JConcepts Dirt Webs in blue compound. Tim would also go on to win both closes in some very close racing. In 4wd SCT, John Bernard JR would take the overall TQ and the win running JConcepts 3Ds in blue compound. John would also go on to TQ and win the 1/8 electric truggy class running JConcepts Hybrids in blue compound. 2wd SCT, Carl Lebo would TQ and win the class running JConcepts Double Dees in blue compound. 1/8 Sportsman Nitro buggy, Dave Duncan would take the TQ in round 2, which would qualify him 3rd over all. Dave would go on to finish second in the A-main behind Carl Lebo who led the race from start to finish. Both of them were running JConcepts Reflex in blue compound.

Unfortunately the race would get rained out for the remaining mains, but the Phil Hurd Raceway club and all its members put on a very smooth program. The track was awesome and maintained for perfect racing conditions. A huge “Thank you” goes out to all of the members for all their hard work and to all the racers for making it one of the better events of the year.
