2015 Fall Brawl

2015 Fall Brawl at Large Scale RC in Monon, Indiana
Race Report by Neil Pestka

The 2015 Fall Brawl would be the last race of the season here in the midwest for 1/5 scale racing. Never knowing the weather at this time of the year in the midwest it is always a gamble. The weather was calling for cool days and cold nights dipping into the high 20’s. This didn’t stop the racers for coming out for the closing race of the season. Friday would be practice all day followed by Saturdays qualifying and the mains on Sunday.

I would leave early Friday morning to get the camper parked and set up and hopes to get a run in before I had to leave for work in Chicago that afternoon. I was able to get a run in but the track was not run in yet. I was still glad to get a run in before leaving. Saturday I would once again have to go to work hoping to get back to the track to make a qualifier. Unfortunately I got back to the track after they finished the off-road qualifying. Just after the sun went down I would arrive back to the track and I tried to get a run in on the track but it was too dark. Sunday morning I got up early and got my stuff set up and ready to go. I took my truck out on the track for a run before the mains started and got a run in. I needed to make a gear change and started to make my change and just ran out of time and didn’t get to start the truck main. I got it back together and went out with 4 minutes left to go and did 2 laps and figured there is no sense in running as I would be in the next main with the buggy. I would start 12th in the buggy A main. I would slowly move up in position and before I knew it I would take the lead about 6 minutes into the race. I would hold the lead for the remainder of the race to take home the win. The new JConcepts Reflex tire for 5th scale kept my buggy on rails the entire main.

Even with having to work I had a great time hanging out with everyone at night. I knew this was the last race of the 1/5 scale racing season so I wasn’t about to miss it. I have to say I have enjoyed the 2015 outdoor racing season and hate to see it come to an end. I want to say Thanks to all my sponsors not just for the great products but the support all year as well. It was a great 2015 season and looking forward to the 2016 season.
