20th Annual Northwest Gold Cup

The 20th Annual Northwest Gold Cup at Tacoma R/C Raceway hosted by Scott Brown had strong competition and epic battles in every class you could enter.

In 17.5 Pro Stock Buggy, Shane Borden and another fast northwest driver Tyler Miller would both get 2 rounds of TQ’s but Tyler would get the tie breaker with the extra lap. With the grid set for the triple A mains, in A1 Tyler would lead from tone to tone to prove his TQ was no joke with a 23/6:04.6 pace. Evan Overmars and Evan Margeson would round out the top 3. A2 was slightly different as Tyler would make a mistake in the first corner allowing Shane Borden to take the lead and control it for the first half of the race. Evan Overmars would eventually catch Shane and apply the pressure causing a small mistake on the infield triple. Evan was able to pass Shane and take the win narrowly by 0.5 seconds, Evan Margeson would finish 3rd. A3 would be set for a showdown, with only Tyler Miller (TQ), Evan Overmars (4), and Shane Borden (2) in contention for the overall it was going to come down to every tenth of a second. On lap one Tyler would once again make a mistake allowing Shane to take the lead and establish a small gap early on. Tyler was still in a solid second only a couple seconds behind 1st but Evan made his way around 3rd and reeled in on 2nd quick knowing he needed to win to lock down the overall. Tyler would crash allowing Evan to get to second. He would gain a little time on Shane in first but he had already started to check out with a 3 second lead and less then 2 minutes to go he put it on cruise control until the end winning with a 23/6:04.2 to Evans 23/6:06.6. With it coming down to a tie breaker between Shane and Evan it would be Shane who edged out Evan by only 1.7 seconds. With Tyler Miller finishing 3rd.

In Stock Truck Shane Borden would break the first round of qualifying while on a TQ run, then would finish 2nd in every round of qualifying that followed. While starting 3rd on the grid Shane managed to come back from a crash at the beginning of A1 to finish 2nd only 3 seconds behind the TQ Evan Margeson. In A2 Shane made his way to the front early on but with only a minute left he made a small bobble on the big infield triple allowing 2nd to get around and it was Evan who took A2 and the overall. Shane won A3 to lock down 2nd overall.

In 13.5 SCT, TQ Shane Borden and Evan Overmars would run 1 and 2 the whole race swapping positions back and forth but it was Evan who won A1. In A2 Shane would have some bad luck on lap 1. As Evan got by, another racer got into the back of Shane locking their bumpers together causing a 25 second first lap for Shane. Evan would cruise to take the A2 win and the overall as Shane would work his way back up to 3rd from last on the first lap. In A3 having no pressure from Evan, he would cruise on to win the race and lap up to 3rd place to secure 2nd overall.
