2016 Summer Smack Down

Cole Tollard wins big at the 2016 Summer Smack Down with JConcepts.

Bluegroove Hobbies & RC Raceway is located in Des Moines, Ia. This was the second year in a row for the Summer Smack Down. Dave Duncan flew from Orlando Florida out to Des Moines, Ia to Bluegroove Hobbies & RC Raceway to represent JConcepts. Also to help all the team drivers and others with tires. The track is an indoor facility with all pit areas and track being A/C controlled. Always a nice option with it being summer and over 90deg outside.

The track was a fresh layout for this race and the track crew did an amazing job with the layout and surface. It is a black clay track that is soaked with water each night and lightly misted between rounds. With this set up we can run gold Dirt Webs on all racing vehicles. All weekend long the track crew kept up with a wonderful watering program so everyone had the same surface and traction to race on.

Friday the doors opened at noon for practice and the team began to start running packs and figuring out the track. The traction was really good so there was some work to do to keep the cars from having too much front bite and flipping off the track. The whole JConcepts team had their JConcepts gold Dirt Webs nicely broken in and ready for qualifying Saturday morning.

On Saturday the doors opened at 7am with a few late entries we were able to have the drivers meeting and start racing at 9:00am. This was a qual point race so every round is important with your best 2 out of 3 rounds counting. After round 1 was complete, JConcepts team drivers were getting faster and faster with holding 3 total class TQ’s. At the end of the day after 3 full rounds where complete, JConcepts team driver Cole Tollard locked up 2wd mod buggy and mod truck in the first 2 rounds with 2 TQs in each with his JConcepts equipped Team Associated vehicles.

Sunday the doors opened at 7am with open practice till 7:45am, the mains started at 8am. This race had triple A Mains in every class. Cole took off in 2wd mod buggy and lead every lap in A1 and A2 taking the win with his JConcepts equipped Team Associated B6 laydown rolling on gold Dirt Webs front and rear. Cole also did the same thing in mod truck, Winning both A1 and A2 with his JConcepts Equipped Team Associated T5M rolling on gold Dirt Webs front and rear. In 4wd mod buggy it came down to Cole and 1 other driver both having 1 win and a 2nd so it came down to combined laps and time. Cole ended up second with his JConcepts equipped Team Associated B44.3 rolling on gold Dirt Webs front and rear.

Big thanks goes out to Phil and Ashley the track owners for a great facility. Their track crew for keeping the track in perfect racing conditions all weekend. Last but not least, Chilly Duncan from RC Car Action for promoting this race and having tons of sponsors that sent in a huge amount of free give-a-ways. Thanks again for all that came out and raced. See you at the next race!
