Midwest Nitro Series – Finals

by Rich on October 8, 2014

TylerTLR/JConcepts driver Tyler Jones wrapped a very successful summer season this past weekend. Tyler only had 1 DNF all summer due to a fuel tank issue and his great results have shown that this year. He has gained a lot of experience and had a ton of fun in the meantime. He can’t thank all his sponsor help enough for providing him the equipment to have such a great season!!

This weekend the young gun attended the Midwest Nitro Series finals at Leisure Hours raceway in Joliet,IL. Rain and cold weather scared some off but still a great turnout. With the rain, we were forced to run on the indoor track and the crew had a great track for us. Tyler was able to TQ both Pro nitro buggy and truggy again. With the only 19 lap runs in Pro nitro buggy.

Nelson and crew had a fresh layout in and prepared for another great Super Cup Event. Being indoors and having a great local racing crowd pushed the entry count to near record levels at 245. 2014 IFMAR Worlds – Afterthoughts

by Jason Ruona on October 5, 2014

WorldsRuonaAfterTBetter late than never? I guess that is my theme for this entry as we all recover from the long world championship event. It seems everyone got sick after the event too which has led to a long recovery and hang-over.

I ask my myself immediately following the 60 minute A-final event. So if you win on Sunday or in this case on Saturday, do you sell on Monday? That is why we are all there right? A promotion to help ignite sales of the product. Everyone should be lined up to buy all the latest product that was on the winning ride starting with the Hot Bodies D812….right?

SWORKz Cup 2014 – Round 1

by Rich on September 30, 2014

image002Alberto García TQ’s a Wins with JConcepts at Round 1 of the SWORKz Cup.

Hosted by the Cervera track located in Palencia, Spain from 27th to 28th September, the technical layout with close corners and a double jump made for some tricky racing.

For the first practice heats, the surface was almost dry and clean but agressive, Alberto chose JConcepts Stackers in blue compound as the best option.

IFMAR Worlds – Who Is Going To Rock And Roll?

by Jason Ruona on September 26, 2014

1991-Winter-ChampsI read an article once where Billy Easton was asked about racing and getting to the top. He claimed it was a lot like the song by AC/DC. It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll. It’s so true, it’s a very long path and some never get there.

You start off wanting to have some fun, you hear of R/C maybe through a neighbor or a friend. You get involved by visiting a hobby shop and getting pointed in the right direction. If you are lucky you have some support of your parents. They see a benefit in having a harmless hobby. “It’s for the kids right”

You pick a vehicle that appeals to you and your budget and probably more specfically, your parents budget. You take it home and have your dad or parents help build the vehicle. You have some issues along the way but your dad “has the ultimate set of tools” he can fix it. You fix it with Tie-wraps, duct tape, super glue, wood, scotch tape, aluminum, welding rods, Vaseline and WD40 (water displacement 40th revision).

IFMAR Worlds Day 7 – Qualifying

by Jason Ruona on September 25, 2014

Maifield_GahanSo what did you think about that 4th round of qualifying? So here’s the question.. Are you more concerned about Jared Tebo escaping tech with the body holes or the track being rained on?

I get asked all the time….what tires should I run? This can be via text, email, FB message or just a straight up post to my wall. I always respond with; send me a photo of your track. A photo is worth 1000 words, so they say? Because, you see, the track really matters. This is something that you need to learn early in R/C.

It probably took me 3-4 club races when I started racing in October of 1990 to figure this out. Only back then you wanted a watered track because it gave the most grip. I was running Trinity tires on my JRX-T and I had 3 different tread patterns. Small, medium and medium large pins. If the track was wet I ran larger pins and if it was dry I would run smaller pins. I knew that when I was running the smaller pins on the dry track it was going to be loose anyways and be slow. However, as long as everyone else was slow I was ok with it.

IFMAR Worlds – Vamanos Vamanos

by Allison on September 24, 2014

allison-1“Have a good trip” …. “have fun, wish I was going” that’s what we hear most often when we leave for a race. “Enjoy your vacation” “can’t wait to hear all about it” they say, this comes primarily from office staff, family, friends. Most of you reading this are racers and you know how it really is. A couple hundred dirty, sweaty people, on the verge of dehydration, exhaustion, either hungry or non-stop snacking, caffeine loaded, maybe wearing sunscreen, stress levels through the roof. Super healthy!! Let’s do it again next week too! Oh, right, we will.

IFMAR Worlds Day 6 – Qualifying

by Jason Ruona on September 24, 2014

wed_jrIt’s funny how once something starts it’s hard to stop it. Tebo gets DQed from round 1…. That was the never ending story on FB today from the worlds. In real time I’d say the whole issue took 30/40 minutes to resolve. Eventually they settled on it being a warning and Jared got to keep his 4th for round 1. People loved that story on FB and commented on it all day even though in the end Jared got to keep the run and had already moved on to round 2.

Everyone has a voice now, that’s what Paul Wynn says and it’s true. All the social media and forums have given racers an avenue to state their case or complain. You can even here my voice now and I’m still talking about the story…Sorry… Ha
