3111_800px_1JConcepts remains committed to 1/10th off-road racing by releasing the Smoothies. In some conditions in off-road racing, there is no denying that a slick tire is the fastest way around the track. Throughout the racing calendar year, there are several tracks where slicks in either gold or green compound are the go-to tire. In damp weather, indoor clay surfaces become so tacky that the lower the tread or to the point of zero tread is an advantage. For years drivers have sanded, ground and hand sculpted tires in search of that elusive slick carcass for racing.

2015 Silver State

by Rich on April 3, 2015

10422187_10153216471178216_724912361796426669_nThe JConcepts Team was out at the new RC Tracks of Las Vegas for the annual Silver State race this past weekend. With some new gear and great weather, the Team was ready to chase down another championship.

Ryan Maifield was running the Pro Buggy class and Open Truggy class. After qualifying 2nd overall in the Pro Buggy Class, Ryan lead the A Main until a mechanical failure sidelined him for the race.

In the Open Truggy Class, Ryan qualified 3rd overall with his TLR 8ight-T 3.0 equipped with JConcepts Reflex tires, Punisher body, Bullet wheels and a prototype wing. In the 45 minute A-main, Maifield put it down in a heated battle and pulled out the victory. The new Reflex tires worked really well for the heat and bumpy afternoon conditions and tamed the difficult Las Vegas track.

JConcepts New Release – Rippits

by Rich on April 1, 2015

3107_800pxThe combined rib | tread front tire from JConcepts is revolutionary and with 2wd, front tires are more critical than ever. With JConcepts, the options are powerful. The Rippits feature vertical bars that were introduced on the Whippits rear tire but designed and positioned more favorable for a front tire. By moving the bars vertical the front tracking and stability is very noticeable. The Rippits allow the driver to clear a corner, release the turn and power forward with confidence on grippy conditions.

The positioning of the bars in close proximity provides a smooth transition side to side and grips high-speed corners with force. The tread spacing still cuts through the dust on the outside line of the track giving plenty of “catch” allowing the driver to search out the quicker laps. The highly blended outside bar makes the transition from 180 degree corners to high-speed sweepers that much more forgiving. The overall surface area of the tire grips harder in areas of the track where the most traction exist translating into quick lap-times. Rippits will excel on tracks that have taken on rubber or have been pre-treated with fluids or chemicals to induce extra grip or consistency.

JConcepts New Release – Whippits

by Rich on April 1, 2015

JCO3106The outdoor racing scene has a new off-road tire, the Whippits. Built on the 60mm bead size carcass, the Whippits are fresh from the JConcepts design team. Starting with a sit-down meeting with racing legend Brian “Dirt” Kinwald, Jason Ruona went to work creating a beefier bar tire capable of conquering the outdoor blue groove, black groove and sugar type surfaces. The Whippits feature the 45 degree edging Kinwald asked for with light detail separating the pins as a noticeable top and bottom layer.

The outside of the tire features a directional inspiration from the 1/8th buggy tire, the Metrix, to support the lateral load while still providing forward drive mid to corner exit. The long Whippit bars in the center provide massive straight-line tracking and stability and the heavier nature of the pin itself resists excess center wear. Small Pressure Point type pins have been added in a subtle way to handle light dust and increase surface area where needed. Whippits will excel on tracks that have taken on rubber or have been pre-treated with fluids or chemicals to induce extra grip or consistency.

Turnpike Tussle Series

by Rich on March 30, 2015

image3Matt Stoltz Sweeps Mod Buggy Classes at the Turnpike Tussle Series with JConcepts.

Kickin’ Dirt Raceway in Somerset, PA was the location for the Turnpike Tussle series, held on 3 weekends throughout February and March of 2015. The series brought in drivers from all parts of the region along with an interesting concept for R/C racing: single day races with extremely limited practice time and a fresh track layout for each event with no “drop races.” Consistent top performances would be the key to success in the series that drew over 105 entries on average per event. JConcepts driver Matt Stoltz was able to take the points championships in both Modified 2wd Buggy and in Modified 4wd buggy.

Maifield_Champ2015 began a new era for the 29th annual Cactus Classic. The long-standing location in downtown Scottsdale, AZ relocated to central Phoenix and is now a part of a huge complex that contains go karts, an arcade, slot cars, hobby shop and a cafe. The new Hobbytown/SRS has a large indoor track that contains tons of clay which was kept damp throughout the event and gave drivers high-grip conditions which was perfect for the new JConcepts Smoothies.
