Jackie Thayer Edition #1: Gettin back to Racing!

Jackie here, reporting from sunny Scottsdale, Arizona! With my month- long haitus from racing, and with some fresh kits, I couldn’t wait to hit the track this weekend. With the weather cooling down, and some exciting events coming up here in Arizona, the fall/winter months are what I look forward to every year.

My B4.1 arrived on thursday, earlier than I expected! I got a head start on it thursday night, finishing it up friday, just in time to hit the track for some friday night practice. Friday night practice is the perfect time for racers to hit the track for some practice in race condtions- the track is prepped and watered all night. Around 7pm everybody started heading in; Overall we had about 30-35 racers running laps! After mounting up some sticky green Double Dees and Groovys for the buggy, it was ready for some track time. A couple packs was all I needed; I didn’t want to waste that fresh kit feel all in practice! The 2wd beast was ready for some saturday racing! Fellow Team Associated/JConcepts teammate Tanner Denney was out friday night as well practicing with his RC8, getting ready for the Sidewinder Nitro Challenge at Thunder Alley in CA next weekend. But before he leaves, were going to battle it out in 2wd on saturday night!

The weather couldnt have been better saturday, about 73-75 degrees right at 7pm! With 9 full heats and over 70 entries, it was going to be an exciting night of racing! The biggest class of the night was Pro-Lite(short course, 13.5 motor limit) topping out at 24 entries. Brandon Fox TQ’ed and won, actually doing double-duty, finishing top 4 in the Open shourt course class(Pro 2) as well. With probably at least 20-30 spectators, the 2wd class was the race everybody was waiting for. I took the TQ by five seconds over Tanner Denney, with Jeff “Humpty” Helms rounding out the top 3. By main time, with the cooler temps, the track was super tacky, proving to be a disadvantage for me; my b4.1 was super fast, but a little hard to drive. I opted for the smaller 6″ JConcepts wing, and it helped. After ten minutes and some awesome racing, Tanner Denney took the win, followed by Humpty, then yours truly.

This weekend was alot of fun for me! Huge crowds all weekend are great for racing, and Arizona. Hopefully this is a kick-start to a busy, exciting, and fun few months ahead! With KBRL series races coming up around the valley and the state, the Southwest Indoor Grand Prix in Tucson in a couple weeks, and the JConcepts 25th Annual Arizona State Championships in late November, Ill be busy snapping photos and shooting video for you all to see! Stay tuned!
