Event: 2011 Super Cup Series – Spring session #2
Date: February 26 , 2011
Location: Mills Pond – Ft. Lauderdale, FL
JR Mitch, Jason Ruona, Bart Collins, Daimon Borkowicz, Dave Bowser and JP Tirronen win with JConcepts.
On a weekend where the weather was perfect and race conditions couldn’t get any better the Super Cup exploded down in South Florida for round 2 of the 2011 series. Drivers came in more focused than normal with their eye on victory to pad points to their Spring series totals. 185 entries turned out in Ft. Lauderdale, FL at the famed Mills Pond track to complete the largest turnout to date for the series created by Bobby Phillips back in 2008. It’s a great feeling to be a part of a great group of racers and the Super Cup series attracts the best racers from Florida with guests coming from as far as Georgia to participate. The stock classes appeared more competitive than ever and the modified classes were so close that bump-ups were critical to a lot of drivers just wanting to be in the big show later in the afternoon.
JConcepts / Team Associated drivers JR Mitch and Jason Ruona “bagged” the 3 modified class wins with Mitch taking 2wd and SCT while Ruona took 4wd. Using an array of JC equipment, modified drivers used Double Dees, Groovy / Rips in the morning and evening runs while Bar Codes were the ticket in the afternoon sticky black groove conditions. Body treatment for both drivers in buggy were supplied by the Punisher B4.1 and B44.1 bodies.
JR led a 1st – 4th place sweep for JConcepts in the 2wd modified class with 2nd (Jason Ruona), 3rd (Paul Wynn) and 4th Jeremy Harris. Jason Ruona led a 1st and 2nd (Felix Law) JConcepts finish in the 4wd modified class and 2 of the only drivers to turn blistering 14 lap runs in qualifying. While the large track was a challenge for the SCT trucks, the Raptor body remained the standard for JR Mitch leading another top 3 sweep of the SCT class with 2nd (Luis Perez) and 3rd (Felix Law) also running the popular JConcepts combination’s.
On-road ace driver Dave Bowser took his skills to the off-road track at Mills Pond and set the pace in qualifying and in the mains in the stock SCT class. Dave’s SC10 factory team was glued to the track and the style of the grippy track lent itself nicely to Dave’s style of driving. Dave “Double Dee” Duncan took home the 2nd position with another on-road ace Tim Potter finishing in 3rd. It was a JConcepts sweep once again with all 3 drivers running the popular combination of Raptor body, Rulux wheels and Bar Codes / Double Dees tires.
Young Daimon Borkowicz won the stock truck class, barely edging out Dave Duncan at the finish line to secure the valuable points. Daimon sported the Punisher T4.1 body, Bar Codes tires and Rulux wheels to the finish line. Dave “Double Dee” Duncan sporting a birthday Punisher color-way body made the finish exciting but ultimately settled for 2nd place with his JConcepts equipped T4.1.
JP Tirronen known for his skills in 1/8th buggy took quite a shine to 1/10th truck by outlasting the competition and taking a big win over Jader Lopez and Mike Applegate in the modified truck class. All 3 drivers relied on JConcepts all weekend, with Punisher bodies on JP’s T4.1, Jader’s RT5 and Hi-Flow on Applegate’s Losi XXX-TCR; the Mod Truck kings bounced back and forth between Double Dees and Bar Codes with changing track conditions.
Track president Bart Collins with a borrowed 4×4 SCT showed the usual fast guys around the track in the SCT 4×4 A-main. TQ Felix Law encountered a few problems and a crash which gave Bart a nice lead late in the 6 minute main. Bart, a veteran driver showed everyone how you finish off a race with brilliant control while still jumping all the difficult jumps with ease. Finishing 2nd was TQ Felix Law and 3rd place went to Chris Meloche. Bart’s SCT 4×4 truck was stuck to the ground all-day with JConcepts Subcultures in green compound.
Enough simply cannot be said for the entire Ft. Lauderdale, Mills Pond crew, Bart Collins and Super Cup race director Mike Applegate and crew on another fantastic event.
Round 3 is scheduled for March 26th in Coral Springs, FL. Be there!
