Event: Battle in the Desert Series round # 5
Date: July 9th, 2011
Location: SRS Raceway – Scottsdale, AZ
The Battle in the Desert Series has heated up once again and Tanner Denney has struck back in the points standings and taken the most recent win in the 2wd modified buggy class. Tanner was in competition all weekend long with Brian Kinwald and others and looked extremely confident. A new track layout was put in place at the famous SRS raceway and Tanner immediately took a liking to the new layout and TQ’ed the 2wd modified class. Brian Kinwald took TQ honors in the 4wd modified class while he prepped for the worlds and his JConcepts / Associated B44.1 was on mark during qualifiers.
With the hot Arizona temperature reaching in upwards of 110 degrees, equipment and durability was a factor all-day long. Tanner, stayed late through the slight rain and wind to take 1st place in the 2wd modified class and remain in contention for the Battle championships. Local driver Brandon Fox driving the B44.1 took the 4wd modified class and Mike Friery took the win in the 13.5 buggy class all using JConcepts bodies and tires.
Double Dees and Groovys on the front were the choice in the 2wd classes and Double Dees all the way around were the choice in 4wd modified. Punisher bodies and 6.5” wings provided the finish touch to the winning drivers.
