Event: Short Course Kings Series
Date: September 10, 2011
Track: NewRed Hobbies, Ocala, FL
Round one of the Short Course King Series was September 10, at NewRed Hobbies in Ocala Florida, being one of the indoor Florida race tracks, weather was not going to be a factor. Eighty-Six SCT’s were on hand and with an extended practice, everyone had plenty of track time to test and tune. The track surface was prepped and blown off a few times per round. Traction rolling at the end of the straight-away was a concern, and a few racers were even running slicks. Rocket round qualifying would determine the order for the main events in the four SCT classes offered.
Stock 17.5 was up first, with TQ Austin Venezia sitting at the front. Early in the race, Austin made a mistake, and fell back to third place, but put in a great drive to take back his position at the front. The last minute he was on cruise control with a comfortable lead, with his Dad as a trackside cheerleader. At the buzzer, it was Austin with his JConcepts equipped truck taking the win, with Seth Moore second, and Ron Beabout in third.
13.5 Super Stock TQ went to Mike Applegate with his JConcepts equipped SC10. In the race, Applegate and Billy Bruce were in a battle that kept the front of the field tight. A mistake by Billy would drop him back, allowing Mike to take the win, with Andy Darby second, and Ruffy Rios right on his bumper in 3rd.
Pro 2 Mod had JR Mitch on the point with his SC10 fully decked out with JConcepts products. JR led wire to wire, with Ryan Eckert keeping him honest. Felix Law rounded out the podium.
Pro 4 was the final main with TQ Felix Law’s Losi covered with JConcepts new Raptor X-Flow at the front of the field. Felix was able to check out, as B main bump up Ricky Layman worked his way up to second, and John Bernard Jr taking third.
A fun day of racing, and thanks to the NewRed Hobbies crew for the track work, and food.
