6th Annual Canadian Off-Road Shootout
Report by CJ Weaver
This past weekend I journeyed across the border to Ontario, Canada for the 6th Annual Canadian Off-Road Shootout. The three-day event gathered racers from across Canada and the United States. The 259 entries consisted of 90 nitro buggies, 48 nitro trucks, 77 E-Scales, and 44 short course trucks. I ran all three of my 1/8 vehicles and competed in the Nitro Buggy, Nitro Truck, and E-Scale classes.
In the truck class, I was able to qualify 3rd on the grid and finish 3rd in the 30 minute A-Main event. My Novarossi powered XT8 was equipped with JConcepts Green Hybrids, a JConcepts Punisher body, and a JConcepts Punisher wing. The tires worked well all weekend and showed almost no signs of wear. Some of my fastest lap times came towards the end of the 30 minute A-Main event!
In the E-Scale class, I was able to qualify 3rd on the grid and finish 4th overall after the triple A-Mains. Both Hybrids and 3Ds worked well in the green compound all weekend but I chose the Green Hybrids for all three of the A-Mains. The Green Hybrids gave me a good combination of forward bite and steering and allowed me to put in some of the fastest laps of the weekend. Unfortunately, a few costly mistakes in both the A1 and A2 mains kept me off the podium. My Tekin powered 808e was also equipped with a JConcepts Illuzion body and JConcepts Punisher wing!
The nitro buggy class was definitely the most competitive and anticipated race of the weekend. I was able to put myself comfortably in the A-Main event qualifying 6th on the starting grid. I got off to a great start and immediately moved up a few spots into 2nd place. As the race progressed, I slowly started to catch the leader. With just 5 minutes to go, I was only a few seconds behind 1st place. I ran consistently fast laps at the end of the race and was able to catch and eventually pass the leader with just under 2 minutes to go. I took over the lead with 1:40 remaining in the 30 minute main and never looked back. My Novarossi powered XB9 was equipped with JConcepts Green Hybrids mounted on Inverse wheels and a JConcepts Punisher wing! My tires showed almost no signs of wear and were incredibly fast from start to finish.
The JConcepts products worked extremely well this weekend and helped me pilot all three of XRAY vehicles to top 5 finishes!
