This past weekend the first round of the Southern Off-road Series was held at HCRCR in McDonough, GA. The race brought in drivers from all over the southeast, reaching a grand total of 195 entries for the 1 day event. The traction was awesome all weekend long, and led to some really close racing.
JConcepts Team Driver, Shay Brand ran in the Pro Buggy and Pro Truggy classes for the event. Shay wasn’t able to get a lot of practice in on friday, so saturday morning was packed trying to get his cars ready for racing. Qualifying was close throughout the day and in the end Shay was able to qualify 3rd overall in Pro Truggy and get the TQ in Pro Buggy.
The 20 minute Pro Truggy race was first, and Shay’s truck was running well in the main. Shay was running in a solid 2nd position, with a good cushion on 3rd. But with about 2 minutes left in the race a mechanical issue would cause him to retire from the race early. The Pro Buggy race was next, and it was sure to be a good race. A mistake on the first lap put Shay about mid pack. After some great driving, Shay was able to make his way back to the front and had some really good racing with both Eddie Cordoba and Chandler Elliot.
Shay was able to come away with the win at the end of the 20 minute AMain event. Overall, it was a great weekend of racing. Thanks to the crew at HCRCR for a great event.
