In this edition of the Friday5 we talk to the JConcepts father & son race team out of Kansas, Travis & Stevie Slover!
1. When and how did you get started in RC?
In 2011. A group of friends had Traxxas Slashes that they “raced” on a back yard track. I bought a Losi Strike to race with them. Then we found out that people actually race these things at organized events. After a couple races, I quickly realized my truck was not competitive and bought a used Losi 22 from a local racer. I was hooked.
2. When you first got into RC racing, what pro driver did you look up to and why? Or maybe there was a local/regional driver that you followed?
The pro I’ve always looked up to is Jared Tebo. He’s an awesome guy and always makes time to talk or help at the track.
3. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?
My JC must have(s) when going to the track is my Finnisher car stands, tire glue, tire bands and my Dirt Racing Products tire brush.
4. With the COVID-19 virus closing many tracks temporarily in the US, how do you plan to quench your thirst for RC?
As of now our local track, Jake’s RC, is still open during the day for practice. Otherwise we plan to rely on basic maintenance, getting our 1/8 cars ready and watching videos of racing or any live racing if there’s anything going on.
5. Name one thing people might be surprised to know about you.
One thing people might be surprised to know about me? I’m VERY superstitious on race day!
