This past weekend was a busy one for the JC crew as tracks start to open back up for racing once again. Many of our drivers came away with wins at various series races, trophy events and more which you can read all about in this week’s Race Team Update!
Let’s start this week’s report at my home track, the RC Compound in Des Moines, IA. This past weekend was the completion of their 2019-20 Winter Point Series that was originally scheduled to be completed in March. Let’s check in with the team to see how they performed.
In the 13.5 4wd Buggy class it was a podium sweep for the JC team! Team driver Bradley Peterson would finish first in points for the season, and he was joined on the podium by JC mates Nate Sutherland (2nd) and Mike Sanders (3rd). Brad said he used a F2 body, a Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing, Aero Lower Front Wing, and Gold compound Ellipses in the rear with Dirt Webs in the front. Nate competed with Silver compound Ellipses on his buggy while Mike choose to run Gold compound Ellipses.
In the 13.5 Stadium Truck class it was another podium sweep for JConcepts! This time Nate would come out on top while running Gold compound Ellipses. He was joined on the podium with teammates Mitchell Brown (2nd) and Mike once again in 3rd. Mitchell reported that he ran Gold compound Dirt Webs and a Finnisher lid for his TLR 22T 4.0. Mike once again ran Gold compound Ellipses along with a Finnisher T6.1 | YZ2-T body.
In the 17.5 Expert 2wd Buggy class, the JC team busted out the broom once again! Brad would claim his second title of the series with a win in this class too! He once again ran the same winning combo of a F2 body, a Aero S-Type 7″ Rear Wing, Aero Lower Front Wing, and Gold compound Ellipses in the rear with Dirt Webs in the front. Joining him on the podium was teammate Cole Henriksen in 2nd and Nate in 3rd. Nate once again used Silver compound Ellipses on all four corners.
The broom stayed out for the Mod 2wd Buggy class as it was yet another JConcepts sweep! TLR/JConcepts driver Mason Fuller would claim the overall win for this class while competing with Ellipses in the rear with Dirt Webs in front and all in the Gold compound. Joining him on the podium in 2nd was TLR/JConcepts teammate Tom Rinderknecht. Tom said he used Ellipses in the rear with Dirt Webs in front and all in the Silver compound. Rounding out the podium in 3rd was TLR/JConcepts driver Kaden Fuller who used the same tire program as his older brother Mason.
The broom was used one more time for the Mod 4wd Buggy class too! This time Tom would sit on top in 1st place with Mason in 2nd and joining them on the podium in 3rd was teammate Chad Karstens! Both Tom and Mason used the same tire setup as Mod 2wd and Chad reported that he used Silver compound Ellipses in both the front and rear along with a F2 body for his Associated ride.
Finally, in the 13.5 SCT class yours truly made the podium in 2nd place. I missed repeating as back to back series champ by four points and also finished 7th in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class. I used Gold compound Dirt Webs on black hazard wheels with a HF2 SCT body in SCT, and Ellipses on white Mono wheels with a F2 T6.1 Finnisher body in Truck. Both vehicles were equipped with the following JC goodies:

Next let’s head a little bit south to Barling, AR for the 8th Annual The Hanging Judge Race at GS Hobby. This event offered a staggering 12 classes to compete in and saw 120 entries over the three day event! Two of the most competitive classes was Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy so let’s see how the team performed. In the Mod 2wd class, JC driver Braxten Culley would set the TQ overall for the AAA Mains and would win A2 and A3 to claim the overall title! He ran JConcepts Nessi tires in the rear and Swaggers in the front and joining him the podium in 3rd was JC driver J.R. Mitch.
In the Mod 4wd class, J.R. would set the TQ after qualifying but would have to settle for 2nd place while Braxten would qualify and finish in 3rd place in this class. Once again Braxten ran JConcepts Nessi tires in the rear and Swaggers in the front.
Braxten’s younger brother Jentsen also ran the same tire setup as he finished 1st overall in the 21.5 2wd Buggy class!
JC driver Matthew Pyle was also in attendance and competed in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes. He didn’t make any podiums but still had a solid weekend finishing in 5th place in both classes while using the same tire combination. Awesome results guys!
Heading even further south let’s turn our attention to Round 4 of the G-Force Series at held at Augusta RC Supercross in Georgia. We had several team drivers competing so let’s catch up with a few of them to see how they performed. In the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class, team driver Patrick Rossiter Jr. was able to come out on top after competing in the 8 minute long AA format! For the final A Main he settled on Blue compound Teazers to help secure the deal. In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class he qualified 2nd overall for the 25 minute main event. He used the Red2 compound Reflexes for the single main but a flame out on a pit spot dropped him back several positions so he would have to settle for 4th overall.
Also competing at this event was team driver Cade Burnette who competed in both the 1/8 Nitro Buggy and Truggy classes. He would TQ the Truggy class but made a few mistakes to settle for 2nd overall. Taking the win in this class was teammate Timothy Hobbs! Cade used JConcepts Reflexes while Timothy reported that he opted for the JConcepts Ellipses in the Aqua compound.
In the the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class Cade qualified 5th for the main but had to settle for a DNF after some electric gremlins knocked him out of contention. He was happy to report that his JConcepts Stalkers were working well and he got a chance to race and hang out with Team Associated/JConcepts driver Spencer Rivkin the night before at a club race the at Loganville RC Complex. Nice results team!
Staying in Goergia let’s head over to Philema to check out the race action at Chehaw RC Raceway. We had numerous drivers competing at Round 7 of the SHRL (Snap Hard Racing League) Beast of the Southeast Series. In the Modified Stadium Truck class Jason Westfall set the TQ but would be bested in the main by fellow JC driver Chris VanRaemdonck. Jason used Double Dees in the front and back while Chris used Green compound Double Dees in the rear and Ellipses in the front.
In the Mod 2wd Buggy class, both drivers would have solid results and make their way up to the podium. Chris would take 2nd overall using Green compound Ellipses while Jason captured 3rd place using Double Dees in the rear and Rips in the front.
Chris also raced in the Mod 2wd SCT class and would take the TQ and win using Green compound Sprinters! Good job guys!
Now let’s jump across the border to check in on team driver Drew Williams who competed at Bullet Town R/C in Milan, TN over the weekend for their 12th Annual Mayhem 2020 race. He competed in three classes and at the end of the weekend he would podium in all three of them! In 1/8 Electric Truggy he would set the TQ and settle for 2nd overall after an early mistake sent him to the back of the pack. In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class he would battle his way to a 3rd place finish in the 20 minute main. And finally in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class he would take the TQ and the win! After trying out different JC treads during qualifying for the mains he decided to use Chasers for the Truggy, Green compound Teazers for his E Buggy and Blue compound Triple Dees for his Nitro Buggy.
Also racing at this event was JC teammate Izriah Osborne. He competed in the 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes and would TQ and win in the nitro class and finish in 2nd behind Drew in the electric class! He reports that he used Green compound Teazers in the E Buggy class and Triple Dee’s in the Green compound for his nitro car. Great results team!
Now let’s swing down back south again to Lindale, TX for the first round of the 2020 RC Pro 1/8 North Series held at 452 Raceway. We had many drivers competing so let’s see how they did. In the Pro 1/8 Nitro Buggy class JC driver Dillon Caldwell took the TQ and win running on Red2 compound Blockers with a Silencer body. Joining him on the podium was teamamte Micah Smith in 4th who also used Red2 compound Blockers and a S15 body. And finishing off the podium in 5th was JCon driver Pablo Tejada!
Dillon doubled-down in the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class too with another TQ and win! Again he used the Red2 compound Blockers but this time with a with a S15 body.
And JConcepts driver Todd Geary reported that he took the win in the Open 1/8 Nitro Buggy class too using Red2 compound Blockers with a S15 body! He also competed in the Expert 1/8 Nitro Truggy class and finished a solid 5th place. Nice driving team JC!
Now let’s cross the state lines to head into Yukon, OK. We had several driving turn laps to left at Taylor Park R/C for the Tornado Alley Racing Association (TARA) Summer Slam. Leading the charge was team driver Tyler Keel who got 1st overall in Midwest Modified and 2nd overall in 410 Sprint! During the day he mentioned he used Blue compound Ellipses but switched over to a Green compound Dirt Webs and Ellipse combination for the mains at night.
Joining Tyler on the Sprint podium was JC mate Robert Chapman in 3rd place! He also finished in 7th place in Midwest Modified and both rides were using JConcepts Green compound Dirt Web fronts and Ellipses in the rear.
Also competing at this event was Billy Caldwell he also competed in the same two classes. In Midwest Modified he finished in 5th in the main just missed out on the transfer spot in the Sprint class. Both cars ended up running on Green compound Dirt Webs in the front and Ellipses in the rear once the sun went down. He also said his Midwest Modified was using the JConcepts C and D suspension blocks too.
JC driver David Alford also competed in two classes, Midwest Modified and Late Model. He was running his new L8D Decked Late Model body and finished in 7th place in the main. Blue and Green compound Ellipses were working well for him. Keep it up team!
Now let’s head back north to Minnesota to see how the team is doing. This past weekend, team driver Kyle Holmberg competed at the LSRCC (Lake Superior R/C Car Club) Race Park in Proctor for their 2020 Electric Boogie. Kyle took the double TQ and win in the Mod 2wd and 1/8 Electric Buggy classes! In the Mod 2wd class he said he used the JConcepts Sprinter in the Green compound and in E Buggy he ran Blue compound Stalkers.
Finally, let’s head north of the border to check in on the team in Canada as racing is starting to pick up steam there. We had several drivers racing at Round 1 of the 2020 Quebec RC Series hosted by Bego Racing RC Raceway. The event brought in 131 entries and let’s see a few highlighted results from the JC race team. In the 1/8 Electric Buggy class, team driver Brian Ross would take 1st place and joining him on the podium was teammate Steve Seguin in 3rd! Brian ran Lil Chasers in the Blue compound while Steve used Green compound Stalkers.
In the 1/8 Electric Truggy class, Brian would take his second win of the weekend and joining him on the podium again, but this time in 2nd place, was Steve again.
In the 1/8 Nitro Truggy class, team driver Damian Lamy took the overall win using JConcepts Ellipse tires! Joining him on the podium in 2nd place was team mate Eric Deschesnes using a mixture of Blue compound Detox and Ellipse tires!
In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class, Damian double-down once again using JConcepts Ellipse tires to take the win! Eric would again finish right behind him in 2nd place.
