With one week left in May the JConcepts race team showed no signs of slowing down. Across the nation the JC crew kept putting in strong finishes which we will cover in this week’s Race Team Update!
Starting off this week’s report is team driver Jason Westfall. He reports that he took the TQ and win in the Mod Stadium Truck class as the 6th Annual Sweetwater Shootout at Sweetwater Raceway in Powder Springs, GA. He said his truck was money on Gold compound Ellipse tires. Nice job Jason!
Also competing at this race was teammate Chris VanRaemdonck. Chris reported that he took the TQ in the Mod 2wd Buggy class, but after a few mistakes he had to settle for 3rd overall. He said his Team Associated B6.2 was hooked on Y2 (Yellow 2) compound Dirt Maze and Dirt Webs tires. Despite not taking the win Chris said he still had blast racing and I’m sure it won’t be long before he makes it back to the top of the podium.
Last Wednesday teammates Rhett McNair and Heath Lawson made their way 405 RC Raceway & Hobbies in Oklahoma City, OK for some club racing. Rhett said he set the TQ in the Mod 2wd class but had to settle for 2nd in the main. His Yokomo YZ-2 CA L3 buggy was equipped with JConcepts Swaggers in the front, Twin Pins in the rear, a P2K body, and Yokomo YZ-2 CA L3 Fin Titanium Turnbuckles.
Heath reported that he competed in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class that night. He took the TQ and win using JConcepts Swaggers in the front and Nessi tries in the rear. Great driving guys!
Heading up north to New Franken, WI JC driver Ryan Derenne attended Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway for their Summer Series. He competed in three classes so let’s see how he performed. On their outdoor track in the Mod Stadium Truck class his TLR 22T 4.0 qualified 3rd overall for the main and after the race was complete he finished a close second. His truck used the Green compound Double Dees with a Finnisher body. On their indoor track he competed in the 40+ Super Stock 2wd and 13.5 4wd buggy classes. In 40+ his TLR 22 5.0 DC Elite ride was using JConcepts Silver compound Ellipses with a F2 body. He would qualify and finish in 2nd place for the day. In the 13.5 class his TLR 22X-4 also ran JConcepts Silver compound Ellipses and a F2 body and he would qualify and finish third in this class. Nice driving Ryan and you definitely take home the iron man award for this week competing in three classes!
Staying in Wisconsin let’s head west to New Richmond to see how team driver Kyle Holmberg did competing at the the first points race at Rick’s Hobby Farm. He competed in the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class and qualified 3rd overall. After the dust had settled in the 12 minute main he crossed the finish line in first place! Helping him with the win was the JConcepts Stalkers in the Blue compound, Mono wheels, Fin 1/8 Serrated Light-weight Wheel Nuts, RM2 Clover Large Flange Wing Buttons and a Silencer body. Kudos to you Kyle!
Heading down to Rogers, AR JConcepts driver Braxten Culley reported that he attended the 2020 Arkansas Carpet Off-Road Championship at NWA Raceway. He competed in the Mod 2wd and 4wd buggy classes and took the win in Mod 2wd while in the Mod 4wd class he set the overall TQ but had to settle for 2nd in the main. Both rides were equipped with JConcepts Swaggers in the front and Nessi tries in the rear!
Over to the east in Waldwick, NJ team driver Andrew Sreckovich went to the Wednesday club races at Cruizin with RC’s on their turf track. He reports that he took the win with his TLR 22X-4 using JConcepts Swaggers in the front and Nessi tries. Awesome job Andrew!
Heading back to the west, let’s check in with team driver Tom Petrella. He reports that he went back to Region 2 HQ Raceway in Shippensburg, PA to compete in both the 1/8 Electric and Nitro Buggy classes. In the 1/8 Eletric buggy class he was able to bump up into the main and led for every lap! In this 1/8 Nitro buggy class he had a few unfortunate mistakes that cost his shot at a podium finish so he settled for 4th overall. He said he used Detox tires starting with the Green compound in the morning before switching over to Blue later that day.
Heading down the coastline to Sumter, South Carolina, let’s check in with JC driver Christopher Fail. He reported that he attended the G-Force-Series to compete in the Open 1/8 Nitro Buggy class. After some tire changes during qualifying he was able to find the right combination to set the overall TQ! But during the 15 minute main he made a few mistakes and flame-out during a pit stop cost him dearly so he had to settle for 3rd that day. He said the best tire combination for him was the JConcepts Detox tires in the Green compound.
Heading back west to Avon, IN team driver Justin Green went club racing at Trak 36 for some outdoor racing. The weather was perfect with a high of 70 degrees and over 100 entries for the day! He competed in the Mod 2wd buggy class and would finish in second place overall to teammate Adam Rayls. His buggy was equipped with Green compound JConcepts Flip Outs in the rear, Rips in the front, and topped off with a P2 body. Nice finish guys!
The JConcepts race team is also running strong in the dirt oval scene so let’s check in with a few of our drivers. Starting in Waukomis, OK team driver Brian Stanton competed at Spring Creek R/C Speedway for their “Prelude to the Classic”. He competed in the Open Sprint class and would qualify in 6th and move up to 5th overall for the day! He used Aqua and Blue compound Ellipse and Dirt Web tires for the race.
Also competing at the Prelude was JC driver David Alford. In the Midwest Modified class he was BQ in the B Main and was able to bump into the A and finish 4th overall! During the day he ran a combination of Aqua compound Ellipse tires in the rear and Dirt Webs in the front. Once the sun went down he switched over to the Blue compound.
Also in attendance was JConcepts driver Tyler Keel. He competed in two classes and finished 2nd overall in the 410 Sprint and Midwest Modified classes! His preferred tire setup was Aqua compound Dirt Webs and Ellipse tires in the 410 Sprint class, while in Midwest Mod he opted for Blue compound Ellipses all the way around.
Finally, fellow team driver Billy Caldwell was also at the race and even though he fought electronic gremlins that day, he still had a good time and congratulated his teammates for their finishes. His sprint car was equipped with Aqua compound Dirt Webs in the front and Ellipses in the rear. Keep striving and driving Billy and the new wrap look good!
