In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Massachusetts team driver, Michael Fredericks!
1. When and how did you get started in RC?
As far back as I can remember I’ve been interested in everything RC. But it wasn’t until about 1991 that my parents got me a Tamiya Blackfoot that I actually got hooked.
2. In your opinion what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing, or RC in general?
I’d say having an entry level class in your race program is important. I can remember it being intimidating when I first started racing, so making the new comers feel welcomed and offering help as needed is important.
3. With the COVID-19 virus closing many tracks temporarily in the US, how do you plan to quench your thirst for RC?
I’ve been slowly get back to the tracks lately. But during the height of the COVID lockdown I did a bunch of vehicle maintenance, some bashing in the backyard, and even a little RC airplane flying.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
That’s a tough one,but I’d have to say the Ellipse tire in Green compound. Because it works almost all the time at my local track. Use them in full tread when the track is new and sand them down as the track comes in.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
Other hobbies I enjoy are fishing with the family, motorcycle riding, and flying paragliders.
