Race Team Update – October 2020 Week #2

The second weekend of October is now complete! Outside the the leaves are falling, but on the track so are the wins for the JConcepts race team which you can read about in this week’s Race Team Update!

Let’s start this week’s report in beautiful San Diego, CA at SDRC for their RAD race.

No, it wasn’t a race dedicated to the 1986 cult classic movie, but instead it was a Racer Appreciation Day (RAD) event. We had many drivers running that Saturday so let’s see how they did.

The Raymond family was in full race mode and made several podiums. Young JC driver Levi Raymond took 3rd place in Open 2wd Buggy while using our Silver compound Ellipses, a F2 body and Carpet | Astro High-Clearance Rear Wing!

JC team mate/dad Chris Raymond finished 2nd in 13.5 Stadium Truck while running on Silver compound Ellipses and a Finnisher body! Joining him on the podium in 1st was fellow JC driver Brenden Edwards!

And in the Expert 2wd Buggy class we had a podium sweep for JConcepts! JC drivers Matthew Gonzales took 1st, Zackery Miller 2nd, and Chase Raymond finished in 3rd!

The Riley family was also throwing it down at this race too. Team driver Austin Riley took the TQ and AA main win in the Sportsman 4wd Buggy class! He competed on Silver compound Ellipses mounted to Mono wheels. And in the Sportsman 2wd Buggy class he qualified 2nd overall and won both mains to take that title too with the same winning tire setup!

JC team mate/dad Rick Riley also took the win in the 21.5 2wd Buggy class! he used Gold compound Octagons on Mono wheels.

Now let’s fly east and stop down in Oklahoma for “The Godfather” race hosted by Spring Creek RC raceway in Enid. Team driver Trevor Nault reports that he took the TQ and win in the Open Sprint class using Green compound Dirt Webs up front, Ellipses in the rear and both were mounted on Mono wheels!

Now let’s head north into Nebraska to check on the team competing at the first round of the Carpet Off-Road Syndicate at the HobbyPlex in Omaha. There were 89 entries in total which included JConcepts driver Brandon Kearney who competed in Mod 2wd and 4wd buggy. In the 2wd class he qualified 3rd for the main and a slight mistake would drop him to 4th for the day. In the wheeler class he would start and finish 2nd overall after the race had completed! His cars were decked out in a ton of JC goodies:

Race director and team mate Alex Sturgeon also got in on the racing action. He decided to compete in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class and took the win in the main while running on Swaggers in the front and Pin Downs in the rear topped off with a Finnisher body.

JC driver Mike Sanders also reports that he competed in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class and took 3rd for the day while running the following JCon gear:

Now let’s cross the Missouri River into Iowa to check in with team driver Bradley Peterson. Last weekend was the final round of the 1/8 Midwest Off-Road Series at TBRL (Tony Bacon Racing League) in Fort Dodge and he competed in 1/8 Nitro Buggy class. In qualifying he ran the R2 compound Reflex tires since the track crew watered the track before each of his qualifiers and he started 3rd for the long main. As the sun set and temps began to recede he switched over to Blue compound and ended up taking the win!

Now let’s drive down I-35 south into Missouri and check in with JC driver Jeremy Cathlina. This past Saturday was the finals for the Fastlane Raceway Saturday Slideways series in Blue Springs and he took home the championship in Late Model class! And in the Sprint class he secured second place too! His winning Late Model used a L8 Night 10″ Wide Late Model body and both vehicles used the Green compound Sprinters.

Now let’s head northeast into Indiana to check in with JC driver Adam Rayls. He also attended a recent Racer Appreciation Day race but this time at Bill’s RC Hobby Shop in Marion. He said he took the TQ and win in both the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy and Open 2wd SCT classes! He used Silver compound Ellipses along with P2 and Hi-Flow bodies.

Now let’s turn south and head to Knoxville, TN to check on the results from young JC driver Miss Bella. She competed at ROCCK Racing for their 2020 Knox Vegas opener. She competed in both the 1/8 Electric Buggy and Truggy classes and she said in the past Gold compound Ellipses worked well but was excited to try out the new Silver compound this year. She ran on Silver all day with her buggy and elected to use Gold for her truggy. She would qualify 4th with her truggy and finish in 3rd and in buggy class she qualified in 7th but secured the final spot on the podium that day! She also used Bullet wheels on both vehicles and a Finnisher body on her truggy.

Now let’s head east into North Carolina to check in with JC driver Dave McEwen. He was in the city of Lucama which is where World of R/C Parts & Thunder Alley R/C Speedway is located. This past weekend they held their finals for the LIT Off-Road Series which began in 2019 (you know, the good ole days). He competed in three classes: 17.5 2wd Buggy, Mod 2wd Buggy and Mod 4wd Buggy. In the 17.5 2wd Buggy class he TQed all round of qualifying and lapped the entire field for the win! He used Green compound Dirt Webs in the victory. In Mod 2wd Buggy he used the same tire package while setting the overall TQ and would also take the win in the main! In Mod 4wd Buggy he ran on Silver compound Ellipses and TQed one round which started him 2nd for the main, but he also went on to take his 3rd win that day!

Heading south let’s dip into South Carolina to get a race update from team driver Luis Diego who competed at the 5th Annual CustomWorks RC Dixie Nationals at Beach RC & Hobbies in Myrtle Beach. He reports that he finished 2nd on the podium in the Late Model 2wd Buggy class!

Team mate Doug Dragotta also competed at this race in both the Loose Dirt Sprint Car and Late Model 2wd Buggy classes. He finished 5th in both classes while using a L8 Night 10″ Wide Late Model body and he said he learned a lot and can’t wait till next year.

Now let’s zip west into Georgia to check in with JConcepts driver Jason Westfall. He reports that he went to Columbus to HobbyTown USA for their Sweetwater Slam race. He said he finished 3rd in Mod Stadium Truck and 2nd overall in Mod 4wd Buggy! Both vehicles were equipped with Gold compound Ellipses.

Joining him on the Mod 4wd podium in 1st was team mate Randy Enger! He was also able to TQ this class and he ran in the Mod 2wd Buggy class too and finished a solid 3rd! Both buggies were equipped with Silver compound Octagons.

Heading further into Mississippi let’s stop in at Flowood R/C Indoor Park in Flowood for the Round #3 of the 2020 RC Pro Series East . We had many drivers in attendance so let’s see how they did. Starting with driver William Ables, he checks in to let us know that after some bad luck in the mains he would settle for 6th place in the 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy class and in the 1/8 Expert Electric Truggy class he would capture 2nd place! He ran a variety of JC treads that day like Green compound Reflexes, Blue and Green compound Detoxes and Silver and Green compound Ellipses.

Team mate Cameron Breaux also competed in the same two classes and he was able to take the TQ and win in truggy and finished 3rd in buggy! He also competed in a 3rd class, 1/8 Expert Nitro Buggy, and would end up a respectable 4th for the day. His electric truggy and buggy competed on Blue compound Reflexes while his nitro ride used Detox tires in the same compound.

Young JConcepts driver Phi-Long Nguyen ran in multiple classes and was able to take home lots of hardware thanks to his JC rubber like Blue compound Detoxes, ReHabs, Ellipses, Teazers and Sprinters!

  • 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy – 1st
  • 1/8 Expert Nitro Truggy – 2nd
  • 1/8 Expert Nitro Buggy – 5th
  • 1/10 Mod 4wd Buggy – 5th

And rounding out the team results was driver Dillon Caldwell. He reports that he took 1st in 1/8 Expert Nitro Buggy and 5th in 1/8 Expert Electric Buggy! His nitro ride used a Silencer body while his electric car used the S15 body instead. Both buggies rocked the JConcepts Detox tires in the Blue compound.

Now let’s check in our overseas team down in Australia. JConcepts driver Ben Panic said he drove out to the Maitland Off-Road Radio Controlled Car Club in East Maitland, NSW and took the TQ and win while using Blue compound ReHabs on Bullet wheels along with a S15 body!

Finally, JC driver Lachlan Donnelly went to the Sydney Radio Control Car Club in Sydney to dabble in some spec racing. He took the double TQ and win in both the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes while using Blue compound Sprinters on all four corners!
