In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Florida team driver, Lee Setser!
1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?
My dad got me started into RC when he had an Oval track. He ran races every Friday night and when I was old enough to know how to work a radio he gave some cars to bash around and eventually I started racing.
2. In your opinion, what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing, or RC in general?
In my opinion we need more of the “having fun at the track” instead of it being so serious all the time. A lot of times that seriousness all the time vibe scares people away. A lot of people, especially newcomers, just want to have fun with it at first. They don’t want to be stressed out with people telling them to get this and get that, that’s better than this….. we just need people to go out on the track and have fun!
3. With COVID disrupting many things in RC (and life) this year, hobby shops and tracks have come up with some new ways to approach RC. For example, curbside pick-up, limiting the amount of entries for a given race, etc. When things get back to “normal” what is one new idea to come out of this pandemic that you would like to see stick around in RC moving forward?
I would say limiting the entries. It makes for a much more relaxing environment and race weekend.
4. From your experience what is the easiest AND hardest maintenance task on your RC cars?
The easiest would be replacing plastic parts. The hardest would have to be shocks and diffs….. they can get messy LOL!
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
To be honest I don’t have any other hobbies. RC is the only thing I enjoy day in and day out.
