In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Australian team driver, Jordan Isergin!
1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?
I started racing in 2012 with my older brother Mitchell and my Dad. My dad took us down to our local track in Keilor, Melbourne where we saw the cars racing around the track and doing big jumps, and we got hooked straight away! My brother and I shared a Team Associated B4.1 RTR for a while until we got our own cars. Now my whole family is involved in racing, my older brother and younger brother also race as well.
2. Name a RC class that you would like to see increase in popularity and why? (And it doesn’t have your traditional race class too.)
I would like to see the Stock Junior class grow more around Australia. Over the past year it’s been growing and the juniors are getting very skilled at racing, but it would be good to see a full field of juniors at our local club days.
3. In your region you do quite a bit of racing on outside off-road dirt surfaces. It seems like today’s car designs are more geared towards indoor dirt or carpet/turf surfaces. Why do you think this is and how have you adjusted to the current vehicles to stay competitive on those outdoor tracks?
My local track in Melbourne is treated with Canola Oil, which is a lot less maintenance and doesn’t wear out the cars as much. The surface is medium to high grip which means we can run a higher grip setup, similar to a kit setup. Other tracks in Australia are dirt, which makes setups more technical. The XRAY XB2 and XB4 are very good straight out of the box with not many changes needed to suit the lower grip dirt tracks.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
My favourite JConcepts products are the bodies and wings. The F2 and P2 body with the Aero and S-Type wing package look really good on the cars and also allows for better handling of the cars, depending on track surfaces. I also really love the JConcepts parts trays.
5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?
Recently I’ve been doing a bit of photography while racing hasn’t been going on because of Covid 19. I’m looking forward to getting back to racing to take photos at the track as well.
