In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Ohio team driver, Brandon Marsh!
1. When you first got into RC racing, what pro driver did you look up to and why? Or maybe there was a local/regional driver that you followed?
When I first started RC racing, I would have to say I looked up to Adam Drake. I started out racing gas truck and naturally I wanted to follow the guy whose name was on the kit I raced at the time. Locally I looked up to the fast guys at my local track.
2. In your opinion, what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing, or RC in general?
I think RC racing needs more exposure. There aren’t many new people entering the hobby and I truly feel that a lot of people just don’t know about it. Second, I think there just needs to be more of an effort to help the new people starting out in the hobby. It’s easy to get discouraged when you aren’t setup right, have the wrong tires, or have no help or advise.
3. On many indoor dirt off-road tracks it seems like the hot ticket is to run slicks. Do you prefer slightly treaded tires or slicks? And why do you think things have moved this way?
I would prefer to race on treaded tires over slicks. I think things have moved towards slicks because of the way tracks are consistently groomed and the advancements in tire compounds. Everyone wants to go as fast as they can, and slicks just seem to be the way to go anymore.
4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?
I’d say that is a simple one, my JConcepts tires. The right tire can make or break your racing, and with JConcepts tires I never have to worry about having the right tire!
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
I’ve recently picked up woodworking as a second hobby, but RC cars is hands down my main hobby.
