This past weekend SS Hobbies & Raceway in Tampa, FL was host to round 2 of the 2021 Spring Super Cup Championship Series. This two day race event started with practice on Friday morning at 10am that ran throughout the day till 7pm that night.
On Saturday the gates opened again at 6:30am with practice from 7-8:00am. At 8:30am two minute heats were ran to figure out transponders and sort drivers by their speed on the track layout already. That way when qualifying began the drivers would hopefully be running in a heat with drivers already at their pace.
Since there were only two qualifiers to figure out who made the single A Mains the race used a single qual point system with the tie breaker going to the driver with the fastest time. But if a driver won both rounds of qualifying then they automatically locked up the top qualifying position.
The top eight cars were locked into the A from their qualifying results and the 9th and 10th cars were bump ups from the B Main. There was a total of 9 classes to compete in and the event was packed with 188 entries!
We had numerous drivers in attendance so let’s see how the team performed starting with the premiere class, Mod 2wd Buggy.
Team driver Lee Setser dominated qualifying as he put down the fastest laps in both rounds of qualifying! In the A Main he led for three laps before he fell back to 4th place on lap four. He would slowly start to make his way back up through the pack and by lap 12 he took the lead again and never looked back as he would win and get the bonus lap on the entire field! Joining Lee on the podium were teammates Paul Wynn (2nd) and Jeremy Harris (3rd) to complete the JConcepts sweep!

In the Mod 4wd Buggy class once again it would be Lee who dominated all rounds of qualifying, and he would take the win in the A to double up in the Mod classes that weekend! Joining him on the podium in 2nd place was teammate Julien Oliveras!

The biggest class of the weekend was the 17.5 2wd Buggy class with 50 entries! Once again we saw a Setser dominate both rounds of qualifying, but this time it was Lee’s younger brother Kenny! Starting on the pole Kenny would lead the pack until the 5th lap where he dropped back to 2nd place. But he would take over the lead the very next lap and go on to pass the entire field and win the race by two laps! Completing the podium sweep for the JConcepts team were teammates Alesio Coffaro in 2nd and Justin Sherman in 3rd!

Kenny would also capture his 2nd TQ of the weekend by posting the fastest qualifying time of the weekend in round 2! When the tone sounded he got off to a great start and would never relinquish the lead as he took the tone to tone win! Joining him on the podium again in 2nd place was JC driver Alesio Coffaro!

The 3rd largest class for this round was 13.5 Stadium Truck with 28 entries. Our driver Tom Sherman would set the fastest qualifying time in round 2 and start 1st for the 7 minute A Main! Unfortunately Tom would get off to a rough start and fall to the middle of the pack on lap one. Teammate Chris VanRaemdonck would battle for the lead from 2nd place after the first few laps and finally take over 1st place on lap 10. He would then fall back to 2nd again on lap 12 but then bounce back to take over the lead for good on lap 13!
