Three weeks of racing are in the books for a cold February, but the JConcepts race team stays hot out on the track! Read all about it in this week’s Race Team Update!
We start off this week’s race report out in California. No, not at Thunder Alley for this year’s DNC race (look for a special report later on that) but instead Sacramento where LSR Speedway is located. Over the weekend they ran their 2021 Ice Breaker event which featured over 220 entries. Let’s get an update from the team starting with JConcepts driver Derek Stephansen.
He competed in both the Expert 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes and would secure the TQ for both! After the mains were ran he would finish 2nd in 4wd and take the W in the 2wd class! He was running fast with our P2 and F2 bodies, Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing, and Silver compound Ellipses.
His teammate Tom Rinderknecht was also racing at this event in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes. He would qualify 2nd overall for both classes and after the AAA mains were ran he locked up 2nd place on the podium for both! His cars were running fast on the following JC goodies:
Mod 2wd

- Silver compound Ellipses (rear)
- Carpet | Astro High-Clearance 7″ Rear Wing
- P2 lightweight body
Mod 4wd
- Silver compound Ellipses (front and rear)

Also competing at this race was JC teammate Kyle Layton. He ran in the Mod 4wd Buggy class too and finished 3rd overall while running Silver compound Ellipses, Mono wheels and a F2 body!
Team driver Joseph Levin was also running at this event and set the TQ and finished 2nd in the 13.5 Stadium Truck class! His truck was running fast on Silver compound Ellipses, Mono wheels and a Finnisher body.
Staying in Cali let’s now get a race update from team driver Matt Olson. Over the weekend he was in Bakersfield competing at Good Ol’Boyz RC Club Raceway for their 1st event of the year. He reported that he took the TQ and win in the 4×4 Truck class while running on JConcepts Reflexes in the Yellow compound!
Now let’s fly east to Sullivan, MO to check out the monster truck action at the recent Childress RC Winter Series.
Team driver Jeremy Mark reports that he competed in the Sport Modified class with his Buffalo Tremor replica truck. He won the racing bracket #2 and finished runner-up in racing bracket #3 with the following products:

Heading north we cross the border into Muscatine, IA where Island Speedway is located. Over the weekend they held their Valentine Break-up Trophy Race on their high grip, carpet off-road track.
Team driver Mike Sanders was in attendance and competed in the Expert 17.5 and 17.5 Rubber Tire Spec 2wd Buggy classes. He would TQ the 17.5 Rubber Tire class and finish 2nd overall! In the Expert 17.5 class he would qualify and finish in 3rd for the day! His buggies were running smooth on the following gear:
- Twin Pins
- Swaggers
- PK2 body
- S2 body
- Mono wheels
- Fin Titanium Turnbuckle Set
Heading east we cross the Mississippi River into East Peoria, IL to get this team update from Ryan Mcclain. He was at CRC Hobbies for a recent race and he reports that he finished 5th over in the 4wd Buggy class while running on Pin Downs and Swaggers!
Next, let’s head north to the Toy Box R/C Track which is located in New Richmond, WI. Our driver Joe Zaier Jr. recently competed at their points race and reports that he took 1st overall in the Expert 17.5 Buggy class while running on Silver compound Ellipses and a lightweight P2 body! He also took 3rd place in the Mini Truggy class while running on Gold compound Ellipses!
Staying in the state we now go to Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway in New Franken to get an update from JConcepts driver Richie Peters. He recently competed in their weekly club series which featured a “Mod Nationals” plaque night for the Modified classes. He would finish 2nd overall in Mod 2wd Buggy and took the TQ and win in 17.5 2wd Buggy! He used Silver compound Dirt Webs and Ellipses, Mono wheels, a Finnisher body and an Aero wing package.
Our next step is in Warren, MI which is home to the RC Clubhouse. Over the weekend they held their Motown Showdown which saw 210 entries. Let’s get a report from the racing team starting with Logan Wendling.
He reports that he raced in both the 13.5 and Mod 4wd Buggy classes and finished 2nd in 13.5 and 5th in Mod all while using the same wheeler! He ran on slicked out Silver compound Ellipses on all four corners mounted to Mono wheels.
Also competing at this event was JC mate Chris Rothwell in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class. He would qualify 5th out of 39 entries and finish 4th overall while using Silver compound Ellipses sanded to slicks in both the front and the rear! In the 13.5 4wd Buggy class he qualified 6th out of 37 entries and finished there for the event while running the same tire setup!
Heading further east we stop at Scale Speed in York, PA for their NotORAMA event. This was a 1/10 Carpet Off-Road event that ran for three days and our driver Mark Unrath reports that he competed in three classes:
- TQ and 1st in 40+ 13.5 4wd Buggy
- 3rd in 13.5 4wd Buggy
- 5th in 17.5 2wd Buggy
All of his cars used Swagger and Twin Pins along with Fin Titanium Turnbuckles.
Our next stop is RC Madness in Enfield, CT where team driver Eric Bresnahan files the following report. On Sunday he attended their February Freezer Off-Road Trophy Race which saw 121 entries. He captured 3rd place in the Stadium Truck class and took the TQ and win in the 2wd SCT class! Both trucks ran Swaggers and Pin Downs and he used a Finnisher body on the stadium truck.
Our next update comes from team driver Michael Fredericks who was in East Providence, RI competing at R/C KARcZ Racing. They recently held their February Thaw Out event and he secured 3rd place on the podium in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class! He said his car felt great running a S2 body, Nessi and Swaggers tires all on Mono wheels.
Let’s turn south and head to North Carolina and stop in at the city of Lucama which is the home of World of RC parts/Thunder Alley.
They recently ran round #5 of their Super 7 Series and team driver Justin Doyle reports that he competed in both the 13.5 4wd and 17.5 2wd Buggy classes and would set the TQ in 17.5 and finish 2nd overall in both classes! He used a F2 body and slicked out Silver compound Ellipses.
His teammate Josh Parrish reports that he took the TQ and win in the 13.5 4wd Buggy class! He used a S2 body along with the same tire package as Justin.
Now we head to South Carolina to the city of Sumter where Sumter RC Raceway is located. Team driver David Olsen reports that he recently club raced there and took the win in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class while using Silver compound Ellipses mounted to Bullet wheels plus a S15 body and F2I wing! In the 1/8 Nitro Buggy class he would finish 7th for the day while using the same tire and body setup!
Next, we head further down south to HobbyTown Columbus in Columbus, GA. Our driver Cade Burnette reports that he did some 1/10 racing there and competed in both Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy. He would finish 3rd in Mod 2wd and took the TQ and win in Mod 4wd! His 2wd used Silver compound Ellipses while his 4wd also ran Ellipses but in the Gold compound option.
Finally, we get this last report from team driver Dustin Spallone. He was in Williston, FL for the 2021 Ultimate Scale Truck Expo and competed in their exhibition race and took the win with his “Jestalade” monster truck while running on Blue compound tires, Tribute 2.6 x 3.6″ Monster Truck Wheels and Tribute Wheel Mock Beadlock Rings!
