In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Iowa team driver, Mike Sanders!
1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?
When I was 7 or 8 I was at the Iowa State Fair and noticed RC car racing. I thought it was the coolest thing.
2. Name a RC class that you would like to see increase in popularity and why?
Defiantly monster truck racing. I have always loved real and RC monster trucks! There are some pockets of monster truck racing, but it would be cool to see some more.
3. Stock or 17.5 2wd Buggy is the biggest class in off-road electric racing currently. Why do you think this is and do you see these as a problem moving forward with the racing industry?
I’m not completely sure. I believe there are many factors. One thing I believe is that the people running Mod are the fast of the fast, the kids who put in the most work and practice time and it’s hard for the average club racer to compete with that. It kind of scares people away from running Mod. No, I don’t see it as a problem, most tracks now have Expert 17.5 and Intermediate 17.5 2wd Buggy. Those classes seem to group skill levels together better.
4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?
I would have to say the tires. Twin Pins, Swaggers and Ellipse. I never feel at a disadvantage with the JConcepts tire line! Another thing, and it’s not a product, it’s the team support. You are always a message away from getting solid support and input.
5. Name one thing people might be surprised to know about you.
I really don’t have much surprises. I guess, I not only love RC racing, but really enjoy the history of RC in general. I have a large collection of classic Tamiya cars and vintage cars in general.
