In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to North Carolina team driver, Chris Pace!
1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?
I got started racing when I was around 17 years old at the Hobby Stop in Rock Hill, SC. Wow 23 years ago! Stopped in one day and saw that you could race these things and the rest is history. Picked up a Losi XXCR and XXTCR and raced stock (brushed motor days).
2. In your opinion, what classes have you noticed that seem to be in a decline? And how would you try to resolve this so there is more participation?
Class on the decline on the 1:8 side is Truggy. Not a fan of that so if it went away then I think it would be better lol. Just too many classes at the races and events. Plus it has to be hard on the manufactures to keep up with the trends in that class and offering more tread patterns or parts to keep it up to speed. On the 1:10 side it is Mod 2wd Buggy. Make the Stock class stock again and we will see the class grow where it should be. I’m a 1:8 guy but I love some Mod 2wd Buggy racing!
3. When life interferes and you can’t wheel your RC car, how do you quench your thirst for RC? Do you work on your car, listen to a RC podcast, watch some racing videos, read RC magazines or books, etc?
When life interferes that’s a funny one. The first stage of that was starting my own personal business five years ago and now we have a one year old little girl so getting to the track is not as easy as it used to be. I truly like wrenching so I’ll turn on a good podcast and turn some wrenches in the shop to get my fix.
4. Name one JConcepts product that you feel is overlooked by many but you find it very useful.
A product that’s overlooked the only thing I could think of was the Diamond Bars for nitro buggy. I really like that tire on high grip, low dust situations. I always have a set or two in the box just in case.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
When I can get out I enjoy MTB with the wife and recently picked up a set of golf clubs. Really enjoy that!
