Landmines 1/24 – Gold Compound
The JConcepts designers have opened up the imagination to create an all-new 1.0” performance scale tire. The Landmines, developed for 1/24th scale trucks after tuning and analysis have reached the summit and now available to the crawling enthusiast. The design starts with a robust carcass carefully shaped and sized for a multitude of conditions and capable of completing those difficult courses while being down-to-earth enough to carry a scale appearance.
The team spent considerable time with the split-block center design which has been sliced, stepped, and recessed for flexibility and contortion over sharp, loose, and polished surfaces. The Landmines have alternating solid and cavity pads which is ideal for transitioning from smooth dirt or pavement into dirt, mud, and rocky terrain. Moving toward the edges of the carcass, the scaling tire has horizonal grippy pads with edge and channels to provide additional forward climbing bite.
Down within the tread, a lightning pattern, knob plots and connector bars pull the design together to work together at shallow and deep sinking positions. Once power is applied to the vehicle, the tread spacing opens which allows for deep digging, making it a great working tire in dirt and muddy conditions. As the tread rolls down the sidewall, a whole new course of tread and side-lugging is applied. A grippy radial ring provides a consistent rubber contact patch in pinched conditions while in the vertical plane, new traction bars alternate between angular and island mapping for squeeze grip.
The flexibility of the gold compound combined with the lug arrangement gives the tire a grippy feel but still maintains that all important scale and performance look. The overall height provides plenty of ground clearance for an abundance of terrain and bossed side-wall logos read with beauty and balance. JConcepts continues to muscle new scale off-road items into the market with the introduction of the Tusk 1.0” tire. After successful tires such as the Landmines, the team focused on a new design with learned information by driving, crawling, and important input from a heap of development time by the JConcepts team. The team used a 2.0” sizing making it a very high-performance and scale-based tire, but the tread layout went under the scope for changes.
The Tusk has an animal like instinct while it makes its way over terrain with hefty lugs and sidewall support. The center of the tire starts with a V-shaped lug with multiple steps to the sides for additional grip while the gold compound rubber flexes and contours to the landscape. The design team added large, staggered traction bars off the side continuing the V-shape pattern and while the shorter version steps in conjunction with the center lug, the longer version fills a void underneath and meets up near the center line of the tire.
The Mirrored aspect to the tire lays out beautifully and alternating rows provide a staggered height affect. JConcepts has added sidewall lugging for pinch grip and gap crawling and relieved a small portion of rubber for increased flexibility. All traction bars and lugging have relieved cuts and slots on the top to split up the flat surfaces for additional little edges for light dirt, dust, and debris. The sidewall lettering is highly detailed on the Tusk with naming, sizing, and identification.

As the popularity of 1/24th vehicles rise, the Hazard seemed to be a popular choice to join the 1.0” wheel diameter world. No detail has been untouched, the new wheel includes the 10-spoke Hazard pattern, outer ribbed pattern, mock lug-nut treatment near the center of the wheel finished off with matte finish. The beads of the wheel have also been textured for better adhesion for the gluing process noticeable in completed pre-mount and user generated tire mounting.
The inside of the wheel has beefy inner ribbing to support the outer hoop of the wheel right to the wheel hex area. The hex area is a direct bolt-on to the Axial SCX24 vehicle with a strong connection for crawling fun. A new climber has been added to the wheel line-up for the SCX24 vehicle. The Glide 5 is simple but has a retro vibe that makes it a popular match for many different body shapes and styles regardless of age.
