In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Utah team driver, Rob Gillespie!
1. How did you get started in RC? Was it racing right away, or did you bash vehicles before you found out about the RC race scene?
I have been driving RC cars since I was about 5 years old. My dad was really fast in the 90’s attending lots of Reedy races and ROAR and NORRCA Nats. He is a NORRCA National champion so RC racing has been in my blood my whole life!
2. What is your favorite class to race in today and why?
Modified 2wd Buggy is by far my favorite class to race, but my dad and I started running some 1/12 scale a few years back and I must say asphalt 1/12 scale is a close second!
3. In your opinion, what classes have you noticed that seem to be in a decline? And how would you try to resolve this so there is more participation?
Well short course truck racing has declined quite a bit. I feel modified racing in general is hard and mod short course is even more difficult. I think if everyone ran 17.5 short course it would be one of the biggest classes at all the major races once again.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see and why? Is it a new body, new tire, new accessory, etc.?
JConcepts has so many dialed products, from the turnbuckles to the sick bodies and wings and the huge line of tire compounds and treads, they are always pushing the envelope even further. I am just excited to see what they come up with next!
5. Name one thing people might be surprised to know about you.
Everyone knows I love RC cars, but when I was younger I really enjoyed skateboarding. I was never was really that good at it but had a blast.
