In every way, the Psycho Nitro Blast lives up to its name. This race is unlike any other because of the 24-hour racing schedule, the high entry count, and the fire that shoots from the podium. The RaceTime Entertainment team, led by David Leikam, consistently puts on a fantastic performance and offers a fresh perspective on racing. To create the best layout for the track, they hired Bobby Moore and the RC Trackmasters team. One of the biggest tracks we race on all year must be the PNB track. The PNB is typically renowned for its enormous jumps and wooden embellishments. This year they added the leap of faith. The leap of faith is by far one of the largest jumps we’ve ever seen on an RC track. Drivers launch off of a monstrous wooden jump, reach next-level heights, and land on the large dirt lander.
The Joker Lane adds a next-level strategy to the racing program. Known for its ability to change the game quickly and create a wild race, this year was no exception. A Joker lap is essentially short cut, and you get one per 10 minutes of a race. For example, if it’s a 30-minute main, you are allowed to use the Joker Lane 3 times, and you can use them whenever you’d like. It makes it harder for drivers to know who they’re actually racing at any given moment. It’s not possible for them to race, and keep track of who has used their joker lanes and who hasn’t. That’s not to say they don’t have any idea, but it definitely makes things tricky.
For Tires, the team primarily went back and forth between the Reflex, the Rehab, and the Relapse. For most of the weekend, we ran the green compound, some drivers would glue the foam, and when it came time for mains some would transition to the blue compound. When it came time for the buggy mains Mason Fuller ran Blue Rehabs along with Dakotah. For Truck, Mason Fuller ran Relapses in the Truck classes!

This was by far one of the most exciting races of the entire event! It was a battle between multiple drivers nearly to the end! Mason Fuller started in first but after a little bobble fell down to 4th on the 3rd lap. Seth VanDalen was there to capitalize and moved into 1st. Fuller recovered quickly and within one lap he was up to 2nd place looking for a way around VanDalen. On lap 11, Brandon Rose moved from 3rd to 2nd, and shortly into the lead for one lap. Bornhorst who was sitting in 4th took a Joker lap and found himself in the lead for a hot minute until VanDalen took it back for several laps. In the midst of all this change, Phend was surging around the track and got into 2nd place waiting to make a move. Mason Fuller then used a joker lap and took the lead back for a lap, and VanDalen fell down to second and Phend to 3rd. However, it was short-lived when VanDalen took the lead back over for another 5 laps. The top 5 drivers were all very close together. It could’ve been anyone’s race at any given moment. In fact, on lap 24 Phend took the lead back and then Bornhorst quickly snatched it away for another two laps. VanDalen was not about it, and he was blazing fast as he re-took the lead for a substantial amount of time. Things cruised along and were a bit quiet for the 2nd-5th place. Mason Fuller was the only one slowly making moves back up to 2nd. On lap 36, Fuller took back the lead for the final time. VanDalen and Phend were battling for 2nd. Ultimately, Phend took 2nd, VanDalen took 3rd, Bornhorst took 4th, and Rose finished 5th!

The Electric Truck main was one for the books! Stay tuned for our YouTube video of this main event. Mason and Kaden Fuller had the ultimate battle to the final tone finishing only three-tenths of a second apart. Joe Bornhorst was also in the fight finishing only seven-tenths behind Kaden Fuller. Kaden, Mason, and Joe were the only drivers to average sub-40-second lap times for the entire race.
40+ Nitro Buggy: Adam Drake (1)
Intermediate Nitro Truggy: Patrick Rossiter (1), Coty Ingram (2), Javon Mallory (3)
Intermediate Electric Buggy: Mason Herrick (1), Patrick Rossiter (3), Justin Green (5)
Pro Electric Buggy: Dakotah Phend (1), Spencer Rivkin (2), Seth VanDalen (3), Kaden Fuller (4), Cole Tollard (5)
The beginning of the Pro Electric Buggy class was a wild ride. Spencer Rivkin led the way until Joe Bornhorst took over the lead for a lap. Quickly after Bornhorst took over Mason Fuller made his way to the top all within a span of 4 laps. Phend was hanging on close behind those top three and quickly found himself leading the way. Spencer who had previously fallen down to 3rd made his way to the 2nd spot and proceeded to track down Phend. Seth VanDalen was able to get around all of the chaos at the beginning of the race and was a big mover going from 10th to 3rd by lap 6. Mason Fuller had a bobble that allowed Bornhorst and Kaden Fuller to make their way up to 4th and 5th. Kaden Fuller was another big mover in this race as he originally started 15th on the grid. Cole Tollard also had an impressive run starting in the 9th position, at one point was in 15th, and made his way to that final podium spot in 5th! It also goes to show how much the Joker lane can play a role in where you are at any given moment in the A-Main final.
40+ Electric Buggy: Ken Rand (1), Aaron Buran (4), Troy Weber (5)
Intermediate Nitro Buggy: Mason Herrick (1), Ryan Prince (2), Coty Ingram (3)
Pro Nitro Buggy: Dakotah Phend (1), Mason Fuller (2), Ryan Maifield (4)
Dakotah Phend led the way in the Pro Nitro Buggy A-Main event after taking the TQ in qualifying. Phend immediately began to put distance on the field after a chaotic first two laps with a pile-up before the leap of faith. Once the initial chaos subsided the race began to space out and consist of several battles throughout. Dakotah Phend and Mason Fuller found themselves battling for the win for the majority of this 45-minute A-main final. They were flying and the only two drivers to average sub-40-second lap time the entire race. Mason Fuller started 7th on the grid but quickly made up positions while avoiding that initial starting chaos. Brandon Rose had an impressive run starting in the 3rd position and battling with Ryan Maifield throughout. Ultimately Roes took 3rd and Maifield finished 4th. Tater Sontag was the other huge mover and shaker as he started 12th, made his way to 9th by lap 2 and slowly climbed up the grid throughout the 45-minute race of endurance. Another notable driver was Kaden Fuller who started 17th and ultimately finished 6th overall!
Congratulations again to Mason Fuller, Dakotah Phend, Patrick Rossiter, Ken Rand, Adam Drake, and Mason Herrick on their victories this weekend! We’re also proud of the entire team for working together all weekend and promoting a positive atmosphere! Our next 1/8th scale event will be Silver State in Las Vegas, Nevada! In the meantime, we’re headed to Beachline Raceway in Florida for the ROAR 1/10 Off-Road Carpet Nationals!
