Adam Drake is in his 3rd year with JConcepts, and it has been a pleasure to work with one of the most iconic drivers and recognizable paint schemes in the pits. The Mugen Seiki Racing driver is a weapon in the Pro 1/8th scale classes as well as a ringer in the 40+ arena. Despite his age, Drake can still compete and challenge the best, no matter how high pressure the situation is. Adam also represents The Drake Racing, OS Engines, Amain Hobbies, ProTek RC, Flash Point, Futaba, Team Tekin Racing, MIP, and StickIt1 Racing.
The Drake uses the #0387 MBX8 S15 body in pretty much all situations. We offer the body in both standard and lightweight options to lower CG. Adam is utilizing the F2l Wing #2800Y to add downforce to his program. As we move on to the tires, the veteran stuck with the veteran tire in Green Reflex #3121-02 wrapped around our Mono Wheel #3357Y.
While the focal point of the above photo is the stunning OS Speed ‘Drake AD3’ edition engine, you may also notice the cut wicker bill on the F2l wing in the background. Racers have found that this increases air-flow over the wing, and makes for a smoother transition from off-power to on-power sections.
At the Psycho Nitro Blast, Adam was utilizing the Mugen Seiki front and rear universals, but he generally does not use an extreme amount of after market parts or modifications. The front wing is the popular JConcepts Front Scoop #0174.
Under the hood, Adam uses the ProTek RC 170SBL servos for both throttle and steering. He also uses the Mugen Seiki Metal Servo Saver Horn for a little more increased rigidity and durability. The Drake is also an old school switch guy, no fancy buttons or connections. Rounding out his package is the tried and true OS Engines T-2090SC Tuned Pipe and 75mm manifold.
We appreciate the professionalism of Adam Drake’s setup. It’s always clean and ready for action! Did you learn any tips or tricks checking out under the hood of the MBX8R?
