In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Georgia team driver, Patrick Rossiter Jr.!
1. When you first got into RC racing, what pro driver did you look up to and why? Or maybe there was a local/regional driver that you followed?
I’ve always been a fan of Masami Hirosaka. He’s been in RC practically his entire life, just like I have. He’s accomplished so much in his career with multiple different genres of the hobby. Even today, despite his “retirement”, he can still wheel if given the opportunity. As far as a regional driver at that time, I admired Adam Drake. He lived with us on weekends when I was younger and actually babysat me. He’s been like my older brother. He’s gone on to accomplish many things as well and truly established himself in the RC world on so many different avenues. Not too mention achieving the ultimate goal: having a wife who enjoys the same hobby and is just as good at it.
2. For this year, what races are you looking forward to attending and why? They can be local, regional, national, etc?
I always enjoy my adventures with Lance MacDonald. Being not only a participant of the Florida RC Championships, but a crew member as well has given me more of a purpose within the hobby. He’s truly been a great friend and business partner. I am also looking forward to the remaining RaceTime Entertainment events this year and the ROAR 1/10 Off-Road Nationals, which is being hosted in my home state.
3. Since you are an avid racer and also spend some time in the race director’s booth, you have seen how a race program is run both from perspectives. So in your opinion, what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing at the local club level?
The biggest thing people need to remember is to have fun. That’s the whole reason why we all started doing this. I personally believe that being sponsored and being competitive can add stress to the point where it can take away the enjoyment. As a racer, you have to remember that in the end, we are all just playing with toy cars and spending time with our friends. I always tell up and coming Novice racers, “If you’re not having fun, you’re not driving your car right.” From a race director’s view, you should always keep your program fresh. Branch out from the status quo every now and then and add some variety to your program. For example, instead of qualifiers and Mains, try a Heads Up style race with longer run times. Keep things interesting and show encouragement and reassurance to racers who deserve it. When respect is earned, loyalty will be returned.
4. Which JConcepts product, in your opinion, is a must-have on race day when going to the track and why?
I’m adamant about being organized! I can’t stand clutter and things being mixed up. One of the most useful and aesthetically pleasing JC items I have is the Finish Line Charger Bag. Whether I’m racing 1/8 or 1/10, nitro or electric, my charger, power supply, batteries, and cables are all together and I know exactly where they are.
5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?
Well first off you flatter me, lol. I don’t have an ego so this might be a bit tough to answer. Outside of RC, I’ve always enjoyed standup comedy and improv (thinking scenarios up on the spot). Robin Williams is my idol and his rapid fire thinking and improv has just blown me away and always got me out of a slump. So I’d like to think I’m good at making people laugh sometimes.

Patrick Rossiter is the man!!! Even with the amount of talent and work that he puts into his race craft, and all the hard work that he does for the Florida RC Championships, he still manages to take time to help new racers like myself with any issues that we may have. The RC community is a way better place with people like Patrick Rossiter in it!! Oh and he’s like really fast too! Lol
