Race Team Update – January 2024 Week #3

The third weekend of racing in January is a winning one for the JConcepts race team! Read it for yourself this new edition of the Race Team Update!
 

We start this week’s report down in Florida at All Out RC in Apopka. They were the host track to Round 1 of the 1/8 2024 FRCC (Florida RC Championships) which saw over 300 entries! Let’s see how the team finished up starting with team driver Gene Shrout Jr.

He let us know that he finished 2nd in Pro4 SCT and 1st place in Open 1/8 Electric Buggy! Joining him on the e buggy podium in 3rd place was his JC teammate Tony Rivas!

Tony also signed up for the 40+ 1/8 Electric Buggy class where he finished 2nd, and he was joined on the podium by fellow JConcepts drivers Ajay Johnson (1st) and Luis Perez (5th)!

Team driver Patrick Rossiter Jr. finished 4th in the Pro 1/8 Electric Buggy class along with the TQ and W in Pro4 SCT!

JC pilot Carlos Gonzalez raced in the Open 1/8 Electric Truggy class and he secured the TQ and win! His tire teammate Nelson Garcia joined him on the podium in 3rd place!

JConcepts driver Julien Oliveras competed in both the Pro 1/8 Nitro and Electric Buggy classes, and he would double-down at this event with two TQs and wins! Joining him on the nitro buggy podium were his fellow JConcepts drivers Trent Walker (2nd) and JR Mitch (4th)!

Team driver Kawri Brown raced in the Open 1/8 Nitro Truggy class, and he would finish the event with the TQ and win!

Staying in Florida we now head to Brooksville where Ron Jon Raceway is nestled at. This past weekend they held Round 1 of their points series, and team driver Erik Everett doubled up with two wins in the Mod Sprint and Super Latemodel classes!

Flying up to Michigan we touch down in Shelby Township where Larry’s Performance RC is located at.

This past weekend they held Round 4 of their Midwest Carpet Off-Road Series, and team driver Brandon Marsh was keeping himself busy at this event as he competed in four classes! He would TQ all of them then drive on to take home three victories!

  • Mod 2wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place
  • 13.5 Stadium Truck = TQ and 1st place
  • 13.5 4wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place
  • 17.5 2wd Buggy = TQ and 2nd place

His JC teammate Ilan Sanderson was also running laps at this event in the Mod and 17.5 2wd Buggy classes. He would go on to finish 6th in 17.5 and 2nd place in the mod class!

Bouncing over to the “Hoosier State” we dribble up to the Hoosier RC Hobbyplex in New Albany, IN for our next report. Last Saturday they held Round 3 of their off-road points series, and team driver Talon Henley secured the double TQ and W in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes! Then on Sunday he raced in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class where he netted another TQ and win!

Fellow JConcepts driver Ben Ellis also raced in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class where he finished in 6th place! Then on Sunday he raced in the 1/8 Electric Truggy and Buggy classes, and he finished 3rd in e buggy and 1st overall in e truggy!

Crossing the stateline we now catch up with team driver Lukas Klein for our next report. He recently went to Crawler Canyon RC Park in Rockdale, IL to compete in their Winter points series, and he competed in six classes!

  • 1/24 Super class = 1st place
  • 1/24 Wild class = 1st place
  • Anything Goes class = 1st place
  • Tiny Tire class = 4th place
  • Box Stock class = 6th place
  • No Scale class = 1st place

Those are some impressive results and he also earned our coveted “ironman” award this week for competing in the most classes!

Moving over to the “show me state” we stop in Fastlane Raceway in Blue Springs, MO. This past week they held Round 4 of their Wednesday Off-Road Point Series, and team driver Orlando Martinez raced in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes. He would grab the top qualifying position in the 17.5 class along with a 2nd place finish in both classes!

Heading north let’s now visit Bad Fast Hobbies in Sioux City, IA for our next report. This past weekend team driver Jake Wiggs attended Round 4 of their Winter Points Series to compete in four different classes, and he ended the round with three TQs and four wins!

  • 17.5 2wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place
  • Mod 2wd Buggy = TQ and 1st place
  • 13.5 Stadium Truck = TQ and 1st place
  • Mod 4wd Buggy = 1st place

Continuing north let’s visit Dollar Hobbyz in Woodbury, MN to see how the team performed at Round 3 of their Border Battle Series. Team driver Austin Jacobson raced in the 13.5 4wd and Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy classes, and he just missed the bump up to the A Main in the 2wd class, plus he secured a 2nd place finish in 13.5 wheeler!

Now we head over to Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. This past weekend they held the final round of their Off-Road Carpet series so let’s see how the team finished up. Team driver Andrew Thomas competed in the Mod 2wd Buggy class, and after the season points were calculated he would finish 3rd overall! Joining him on the podium were his tire teammates Alex Sturgeon (2nd) and Eli Vanderbeek (1st)! Alex also ran in the Mini-B class where he took home 1st place in the series!

JC driver David Peavler raced in the Expert 17.5 2wd Buggy class at the finals, and he would rack up another TQ and win, plus the series title in this class!

Now we fly out west to sunny California for our next team update. Team driver Jay Wedsted recently went to Rain-Man’s Hobby and Raceway in Bakersfield to compete in their 2024 Icebreaker trophy race that brought out 177 entries! He competed in the Sportsman 17.5 2wd Buggy and 13.5 Stadium Truck classes, and would wrap up the race with a 7th place finish in buggy and a 6th place finish in truck!

Also running laps at this race was fellow JC driver Tyler Fenster in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, He would go on to take the TQ and win in both classes, and joining him on the Mod 2wd podium was fellow JC driver Doug Lariviere (2nd)!

Now let’s get some updates from our international team who recent competed at CTSR (Circuit Téléguidé St-Roch) in Saint-Roch-de-l’Achigan, QC, Canada for their The Rock Championship event.

Starting with team driver Kevin Lachapelle he raced in the three classes and would finish 13th in 13.5 4wd Buggy, 9th overall in Stadium Truck and 5th place in 17.5 2wd Buggy!

Team driver Damian Lamy threw down laps in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, and by the end of the event he would head home with the double TQ and W!

Our final report this week comes to us courtesy of team driver Guillaume Tremblay. He also competed in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, and he would end up 4th in Mod 2wd and lock up 3rd place in Mod wheeler!
