In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Illinois team driver, Cody Meiferdt!
1. We have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you get your start in RC racing?
My dad used to race a lot back in the 90s. As a kid I would always bash with his old RC10T2 and RC10B3. Around 2008 we finally decided to join this century and buy an RC10T4 to start racing, it’s been an addiction ever since.
2. What classes do you enjoy to compete in today? Is there another class you would like to see comeback or increase in popularity so you could compete in it as well?
Being from the Midwest I typically race about six months of 1/10 scale indoor off-road (carpet and dirt) and six months of 1/8 scale outdoor off-road. I’m really happy to see Stadium Truck making a comeback as that is the class I started in and it’s so much fun.
3. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date AND why?
As impressive as the electronic advancements have been, the durability of the cars has to be the biggest step forward. I recall racing a B44 and it being quite fragile. It seems like anymore these cars can take some massive hits and keep on going.
4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?
It seems silly being as simple as it is, but the Combo Thumb Wrench is a tool that I use every single time I wrench. I love having both hex sizes on one tool.
5. Besides RC racing, what other activities do you enjoy?
Racing. Racing. Racing. If it has a motor, it has my interest. My earliest memories are from our local asphalt track watching the midgets. I grew up around all types of race cars and my brother has raced dirt oval stock cars for about 15 years now. If I’m not racing RC, I’m with my brother helping him out.
