Friday5 With Team Driver Damon Smith

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Indiana team driver, Damon Smith!

1. How did you first hear about RC car racing? Once you got started what class did you participate in to begin with and why?

My dad used to refurbish and resell RC cars so that’s how I was first introduced. I first got started racing in Short Course Truck when I was super young, however I really started taking things seriously when I started racing Dirt Oval with a stock Traxxas Slash.

2. As a new driver for JConcepts in 2024, what do you feel you bring to the team and what are some of your racing goals?

I feel like I bring a lot of knowledge about high grip surfaces as well as a lot of help to the people that aren’t on the team. As far as my goals for the 2024 season, I’d like to be on the top step of the podium at an INS14 race. I feel I’ve had the pace to do so in the past; however, lack of experience let nerves get the better of me.

3. When it comes to racing for hardware, which format do you prefer? A three day event that takes up the entire weekend, or a smaller series race that might only be Friday and Saturday?

As far as format, I prefer longer weekends. I like to get as much practice as I can to really get comfortable on a different surface. Honestly I love four or five day events.

4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why?

I would really love to see some more black aluminum pieces for the new B7 2WD buggy.

5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?

Honestly, I don’t have many other hobbies. Between RC and school I don’t really have time for much else.

  1. Damon is a great guy who always takes time to help anyone who needs it at the track. He’s always smiling and genuinely just a nice guy. He is a huge asset a Hoosier and to the RC community in general!
