In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Pennsylvania team driver, Garrett Hawbaker!
1. Let’s get a little background on your start to RC racing. Were you introduced to it by a friend, family member, or maybe read about or watched something on social media?
My dad actually introduced it to me. He bought me a Traxxas Rustler from our local hobby shop, 997 RC Raceway. Then that same year on Christmas he bought me an EB410 for turf and that’s where it really sparked.
2. As a new driver for JConcepts in 2024, what do you feel you bring to the team and what are some of your racing goals?
To me I feel that I can bring more trophies to their name for sure. Ever since I started running the tire in 2022, I have felt like a completely different driver. A big goal for me this year is to make the A Main in any class at the ROAR 1/8 Electric Off-Road Nationals this year and win the Junior Championship.
3. When life interferes and you can’t get out to the track, what other activities do you dabble with to meet your RC fix? Do you work on your car, listen to a RC podcast, watch some racing videos, read RC magazines or books, etc?
A lot of the time I will hook up a VRC adapter to a PC and play VRC. I’m gonna be honest, I’m not all about car setup and putting cars together but whenever I find the time to learn I try.
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why?
I’m just really excited to see all the types of new bodies that could be made this year. There have been many awesome new bodies released and my favorite body for the 2wd buggy is the P2!
5. What other hobbies are you into besides RC cars?
I really enjoy biking, gaming, scootering, and most importantly, spending time with my dad and mom because they always make sure that I have a smile on my face!
