Race Team Update – April 2024 Week #2

The JConcepts race team continues to put in work at tracks around the globe! Read about our worldwide winning ways in this fresh edition of the Race Team Update!

We start this week’s report in Omaha, NE where the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex) is located. This past weekend they held the opening round of their annual Summer Series that brought out 144 entries! We had many drivers representing the team that weekend so let’s see how they finished up starting with team driver Mason Herrick. He let us know that he raced in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, and he would make both mains, but suffered a DNF in wheeler, while in the 2wd class he set the TQ and finished 3rd! Joining him on the 2wd podium to complete the team sweep was fellow JC drivers Alex Vanderbeek (2nd) and Tom Rinderknecht (1st)!

JC driver Brandon Kearney also raced in both mod buggy classes and would finish a solid 8th place in both!

Team driver Bradley Peterson competed in the 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd Buggy classes, and when the day was over he would finish 6th in 4wd and 5th place in 2wd!

Team driver Andrew Thomas also competed in these same two classes, and when the dust had settled he would wrap up the TQ and win in both classes! He was joined on the 17.5 2wd podium by his JConcepts teammates Daniel Bender (2nd) and Dalton Conradt (3rd)! Speaking of Dalton he also finished 5th overall in the 13.5 4wd class too!

Team driver, and Plex race director, Alex Sturgeon competed in the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy class where he would set the TQ and race on to take home the W! Joining him on the podium were his tire teammates Mack Vanderbeek (2nd) and Orlando Martinez (3rd) to complete another JConcepts podium sweep!

Now we make our way to the “Land of Lincoln” to see how the team finished up at a recent monster truck event held at the Dream Fields Raceway in Waterloo. Starting with team driver Jeremy Mark he competed in the Sport Modified class and would qualify 2nd in racing bracket 1 and took the TQ in racing bracket 2! He then advanced to the semi-finals with both his replica Taurus and Buffalo Tremor trucks and fell just shy of facing himself in the finals!

Also racing at this event was JC driver Chris Parrish. In the Retro and SportMod classes his trucks made the semi-finals, while in the ProMod class he competed in the final race! In the Freestyle competition he finished 2nd overall!

Wiggling out way up to Wisconsin we stop in at New Franken where Dirt Heaven Hobby & Raceway is located.

This past weekend they held the 9th round of their Winter Series, and team driver Ryan Derenne let us know that he finished 3rd overall in both the 40+ Mod 2wd Buggy and Mod Stadium Truck classes!

Staying in Wisconsin we now head to New Richmond where the The Toy Box is located. Team driver Kyle Holmberg competed there over the weekend for the final round of the Boarder Battle Series where he took the win in the 17.5 2wd Buggy class! It was also another podium sweep for the JConcepts team since he was joined on the podium by fellow JC drivers Thor Ott (2nd) and Chris Malooly (3rd)!

Leaping over Lake Michigan we splash down in the city of Jonesville where Sandpit RC is located at. This past weekend they held Round 6 of their 1/8 Winter Series and team driver Ilan Sanderson was in attendance. When the racing was done for the day he would take 1st place in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class! And after all the points were tallied up he would finish 5th overall in this class for the series!

Heading east we now stop in at RC Madness in Enfield, CT. Team driver Jared Phair competed there over the weekend in their season opener, and he would lock up the final podium spot in the 1/8 Electric Buggy class! It was also yet another podium sweep for the JConcepts team as he was joined by fellow JC pilots Andrew Bishop (1st) and Daniel Sedler (2nd)!

Heading down the coast we now visit The Track in Gaithersburg, MD for our next update. This past weekend they hosted a Vintage Showdown event, and team driver Jason Csontos finished 2nd overall in the 17.5 Stadium Truck class!

Making our way down to North Carolina we check in with team driver Derrick Harris. He recently traveled to G3RC Raceway in Bessemer City to compete in the opening round of the King of Carolina Series. He raced in the 1/8 Electric Truggy and Pro Buggy classes, and he would finish the round with a 6th place finish in e buggy and 3rd overall in e truggy!

Flowing down to Mississippi let’s get our next update from team driver William Ables. Recently he went to the town of Magee where Saratoga – Flowood RC Raceway is located to compete in their Throttle Therapy trophy event. He signed up for the 1/8 Electric Buggy class and would grab the TQ and win!

Next, let’s head out to Taylor Park Raceway in Yukon, OK to see how the team performed at their recent 6th Annual WFO For Wilcox trophy race that brought out over 300 entries!

Starting with team driver Kevin Mcnatt he reports that he captured the win in the Mod SC class!

His tire teammate Tyler Keel competed in the Outlaw Sprint class, and he would finish the event in 7th place!

Moving west we now make our way to Eaton’s Intermountain RC Raceway Salt Lake City, UT. This past weekend they held their 35th Annual April Fools Classic that saw 363 entries! Team driver Ethan Hoskins competed in three classes at this race, and he would finish 4th overall in the Pro 13.5 4wd Buggy and Stadium Truck classes, along with the TQ and 1st place in the Pro 17.5 2wd Buggy class! Joining him on the 2wd podium in in 2nd place was fellow JConcepts driver Doug Lariviere!

Also competing in the Pro 13.5 4wd Buggy class at this event was team driver Darnell DeBrule who just missed out making the A Main, but was still running fast while looking good!

Now let’s head to sunny California to see how the team faired at a few different RC events throughout the state. Starting with team driver Chris Raceles this past Saturday he went to SDRC Raceway in San Diego for Round 4 of their Supercross Series. He entered the 40+ 2wd and 4wd buggy classes along with the 13.5 Stadium Truck class, and he would pull off the trifecta with three TQs and wins!

Next, we head to The Dirt at Perris in North Perris which hosted the opening round of the JBRL 1/8 Off-Road Series that saw 268 entries! Team driver Don Vinkemulder was at this series event, and he finished 5th in the B Main for the Open 1/8 Nitro Truggy class, and 4th overall in the Intermediate 1/8 Nitro Buggy class!

Moving north we stop in at the NW Model Hobby Expo in Monroe, WA which hosted the DieHard RC Rug Champs this past weekend as it saw 227 entries.

Team driver Ashon Bristol was at this event, and he would finish 2nd in Mod 4wd Buggy, plus the TQ and 3rd place in Mod 2wd Buggy!

Now let’s get some updates from out international team starting with team driver Alberto Garcia. He recently competed at the Madrid 1/8 Off-Road Championship in Spain where he finished 4th overall after the 45 minute final!

Heading down to Australia let’s see how the team finished up at the New South Wales 1/10 Off-Road State Titles held at the Hills Off-Road facility in Sydney which saw 220 entries!

Starting with team driver Jarod Ment he competed in the Mod 4wd and 2wd Buggy classes, and when the race was over he finished 3rd in wheeler and took the W in the 2wd class! Joining him on the 2wd podium in second place was fellow JConcepts driver Lachlan Donnelly!

Team driver Lachlan Munday competed in three classes, and he would wrap up the event with a 4th place finish in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes, plus a TQ and win in the Mod Stadium Truck class!

JConcepts driver Ben Panic also raced in the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes where he finished 21st overall, and his son Zac finished in 2nd place in the 2wd Junior Stock class!

JC driver Andrew Selvaggi competed in the 13.5 4wd and 17.5 2wd Buggy classes at this race, and he would TQ both classes and finish 2nd in 2wd and took the win in the wheeler class!

Our final report this week comes to us courtesy of team driver Clément Boda. This past weekend he went to the south of France for the 2nd round of the French Championship, and he would finish 2nd overall in both the Mod 2wd and 4wd Buggy classes!

  1. You forgot a driver from the Plex! TJ Williams TQ and win in 13.5 truck, 3rd in 13.5 4WD and 4th in 17.5 2WD!
