In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Nebraska team driver, TJ Williams!
1. We have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you get your start in RC racing?
My uncle got me an original ARRMA Granite for Christmas when I was eight and took it to the HobbyTown USA HobbyPlex (The Plex). We found out that it wasn’t the best so then we upgraded to Traxxas Slash 4×4, and shortly after that I got a B6.1 and I’ve upgraded from then on.
2. This year you joined JConcepts as a new team driver. What are some of your goals for this year and what do you think you can bring or add to the existing team?
One of my goals is to place in the top 15 in both Expert buggy classes, and the top 10 in Stadium Truck in the INS14 series. I think I’m adding a competitive driver and a dedicated racer. I have high hopes in the RC industry in of going far.
3. If you had to guess where the 1/10 off-road electric scene is ten years from now, would you expect to see more dirt, carpet, or turf tracks and why?
I hope 1/10 dirt would still be around, but I think eventually it’s going to go to full carpet tracks because to run a dirt track and have the machinery to do it just takes a lot of work and money, and with stuff getting more expensive not many people can afford to run a dirt track. So carpet tracks are the next closest thing and is what most would resort to.
4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?
I personally like the JConcepts Aluminum Camber and Ride Height Gauges because they’re accurate and look great. The storage case for them is nice too since you can store them together and fit it into smaller spaces.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
I like to go fishing when I have the time to and I like playing games with THE BOYZ and spend time with my girlfriend.
