In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Ohio team driver, Charles Hicks!
1. Let’s get a little background on your start to RC racing. Were you introduced to it by a friend, family member, or maybe read about or watched something on social media?
I originally got introduced to RC racing from my uncle. He moved back to my hometown and started working at a local hobby shop. He invited me to come check out the club racing one of the days he was working and I was hooked ever since.
2. As a new driver for JConcepts in 2024, what do you feel you bring to the team and what are some of your racing goals?
As a new team driver for JConcepts this year I feel like I bring experience on the 1/8 racing side. Also, I’m looking forward to helping out all the JC customers I can when I’m out and about. It’s always great when you help a fellow racer out and you see the excitement in their face when your help or suggestion helps their racing or whole experience at the track.
3. What class do you prefer to compete in today, and why?
I prefer to compete in 1/8 nitro buggy, but 1/8 Ebuggy is a close second. Nothing beats the sound, smell and overall whole experience racing nitro. Ebuggy is a little easier of a day and almost as fun. Nitro for the glory!
4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why? Is it a new body, new tire, new accessory, etc?
When it comes to new JC products, I get excited for the new tires and accessories the most. Jason and the team are always so innovative and pushing the boundaries in the tire game so it always makes it exciting when new fresh kicks hit the market. The accessories are always so thoughtful too.
5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?
Besides RC cars my other hobby would be golf. It really teaches you that improvements don’t come without hard work and it really stresses your mental strength. Both of which I think translate over to RC racing. Racing, just like golf, has many ups and downs so you have to be mentally strong if you want to compete.
