Friday5 With Team Driver Scott Furtado

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Massachusetts team driver, Scott Furtado!

1. Ok let’s start with how you got first involved in RC. Did you pick it up from someone, stumbled across a local track, etc.?

I have been into RC most of my life and have been racing for the past 25 years. My buddy owned a local hobby shop and I was recovering from a motocross injury. So I decided to build a new Losi kit and here we are today still at it.

2. What classes do you enjoy to compete in today? Is there another class you would like to see comeback or increase in popularity so you could compete in it as well?

My favorite classes to run are 17.5 2wd and 13.5 4wd buggy running on carpet. I have recently started to run 1/8 buggy and truggy on outdoor dirt this year, and have not done this type of racing in many years. I would love to see 4wd Short Course Truck racing come back, it was one of my favorite classes.

3. From your experience what is the easiest AND hardest maintenance task on your RC cars?

From my experience of racing carpet/turf the past 10 years it is easy to prep and get the cars ready for the race weekend versus now racing on dirt since there is plenty of maintenance after a race day. But I enjoy the sport and love all the types of racing.

4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why?

It’s nice to see all of the new JConcepts innovations, but what I like the most is that JC has the best bodies by far. Pure innovative designs that actually changes the handling of the cars.

5. You are obviously highly skilled when it comes to RC cars, but what is one skill or hidden talent that folks might be surprised to find out about you?

I have always been an avid speed enthusiast. I raced pro motocross for 20 years and I’m also into mountain and downhill biking. RC racing to me is similar in the fact that you’re always looking for that extra something!
