Friday5 With Team Driver Kyle Chasen

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Maryland team driver, Kyle Chasen!

1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars?

I learned about RC racing from my parents when I was a young kid. I didn’t start racing till I was 17. I raced in open 2wd Short Course Truck with a Traxxas Slash.

2. This year you joined JConcepts as a new team driver. What are some of your goals for this year and what do you think you can bring or add to the existing team?

I was a JConcepts driver a few years ago, but I’m glad to be back on the team. My goals are slightly different from the regular person since I’m stationed overseas in Japan, and it’s been a challenge for me to find tracks and when races are. But, I do practice and race at the famous Champ Stadium and they race about once every two months. My goals are to learn how to be smoother and be a more consistent driver! I also think I can bring my experience to the JConcepts team and teach the youth to just have fun at the track, and don’t always reflect on your results. Just appreciate that you can race.

3. In your opinion, what needs to be done to increase participation in RC racing, or RC in general?

In my opinion in order to have max participation in RC is to make it fun. There’s no need to take it so serious that you get mad at your own mistakes and lash out with your words. For races I think more advertisement would help get more entries.

4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?

I think the most overlooked accessory is the 1:10 Spring Box with Foam Liner and the JConcepts Tool Holder.

5. Name one thing people might be surprised to learn about you.

I’m a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army and my job is a Watercraft Operator.
