Friday5 With Team Driver Maccoy Martin

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Florida team driver, Maccoy Martin!

1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?

I got into RC in 2021 when my family and I checked out Beachline Raceway during the Florida Carpet Champs. I was instantly hooked, and I got my first car for Christmas. It was an XRAY XB2. My dad and I shared the car for a while and we both started racing out at Beachline. I started racing in the Rookie class, then eventually bumped up to Intermediate, and I currently race in the Expert stock classes.

2. What classes do you enjoy to compete in today? Is there another class you would like to see comeback or increase in popularity so you could compete in it as well?

I compete in the 17.5 2WD and 13.5 4WD Expert stock classes in 1:10 buggy and I also race 1:8 Ebuggy. I really enjoy racing on-road and I’d love to see on-road gain back more popularity.

3. When life interferes and you can’t get out to the track, what other activities do you dabble with to meet your RC fix? Do you work on your car, listen to a RC podcast, watch some racing videos, read RC magazines or books, etc?

I always like to work on my cars, always trying to figure out how I can go faster, and learning about what does what on my cars. I also like to watch races on YouTube and try to study other peoples driving styles. I love designing new decals and painting my own bodies.

4. Which JConcepts product, in your opinion, is a must-have on race day when going to the track and why?

Fuzz Bites front and rear are a must at Beachline, my home track.

5. Obviously you are into RC cars, but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?

One thing I’ve always enjoyed doing is playing vintage arcade games. Even though I’m not the greatest at it, I still always have fun trying to improve from my previous high scores.
