In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Oklahoma team driver, Steve DeArmon!
1. How did you first hear about racing RC cars? And what classes did you compete in?
In 1988 I bought a Tamiya Hornet from a hobby shop at the mall in Oklahoma City. He told me of a place where I could race and I have been racing ever since.
2. What classes do you enjoy to compete in today? Is there another class you would like to see comeback or increase in popularity so you could compete in it as well?
I raced 1/10 scale buggy and truck for 30 years. I got picked up by Tekno to run the new EB410 1/10th scale, then I started racing 1/8th scale off-road buggy and truggy. The class I would like to see come back would involve the Custom Works Dominator 4WD chain drive oval car which was so much fun.
3. As an experienced racer you have probably glued up hundreds of tires for your race program. What tips can you give to make this process easier for a new racer?
The best tip for gluing up tires is to make sure to clean the rubber with alcohol or simple green as well as the wheel. Use the Medium Advanced Formulated Tire Glue from JConcepts along with JConcepts Satellite Tire Rubber Bands!
4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?
Too many to list, but I would have to say JConcepts Aluminum Camber and Ride Height Gauges.
5. Besides piloting a RC car what other hidden talent or skill set do you possess that might surprise someone?
I’m a 2nd degree black belt in Taekwondo registered in Korea, an avid pickleball player, and I like spending time with my family and friends.
