In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Canadian team driver, Sam Olmstead!
1. When did you get your start with RC cars? Did you bash your RC cars at first or jumped right into the RC racing scene once you found out about it?
I entered the RC hobby in 1993 with a RC10T Team Truck and went straight into racing and never looked back.
2. When it comes to racing for hardware, which format do you prefer? A three day event that takes up the entire weekend, or a smaller series race that might only be Friday and Saturday? Or even a weekly points night?
My preferred event is a three day weekend. I like to get as much time at the track as possible, testing, visiting with other racers and bench racing in the evening.
3. In your region you do quite a bit of racing on off-road carpet. So what advice do you have for off-road dirt drivers that are trying out carpet for the 1st time?
I would recommend to ask an experienced racer for a baseline setup for the track you are attending then fine tune it for your driving style.
4. In your opinion, when heading to the track what is the JConcepts product that is a must have on race day and why?
My favorite and most used JConcepts product is my Aluminum Ride Height and Camber Gauges. I religiously check my ride height, camber and toe every run.
5. Obviously you are into RC racing but what other activities do you find enjoyment with?
When I am not wrenching or racing I like to ride my dirt bike and spend time camping with my family.
