Friday5 With Team Driver Brent Riley

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Kansas team driver, Brent Riley!

1. When and how did you get started in RC? And what class do you compete in or did you primarily bash your vehicles?

At the age of 12 my dad and I visited Blue Vue Raceway in Kansas City which was an on-road carpet oval track. They offered a NASCAR class that I fell in love with. My first car was a Bolink on-road oval car that my dad and I quickly learned we needed to upgrade. After a few short months my dad bought me the original Team Associated RC10L and I’ve been racing RC cars in some fashion ever since.

2. As a new driver for JConcepts in 2025, what skills do you feel you bring to the team and what are some of your goals this year?

Being a veteran with years of hands-on experience I’m able to help other racers with setup and tire advice along with tips and tricks that’s not always published knowledge. My main goal for 2025 is to attend the ROAR 1/10 Electric Dirt Off-Road Nationals at the Hoosier RC Hobbyplex and continue to support racers who need help. It’s just as enjoyable to me to see someone I’ve helped succeed and have fun as when I make the podium.

3. If you have been racing for a while now you have probably glued up 100s of tires. So what gluing tips do you have for beginning racers?

The most important tip is to ensure both the tire and wheel are cleaned well and properly. Glue will not adhere a dirty tire to a dirty wheel. Secondly, take your time and don’t get excessive with the glue. You don’t want glue puddling on the surface and run onto the outside of tire.

4. JConcepts is well known for its tires and bodies, but in your opinion what tool or accessory is a must have on race day that other drivers might overlook?

Hands down the Aluminum Ride Height and Camber Gauges. I check ride height and camber before every race. Another must have is the Satellite Tire Rubber Bands that greatly aid in gluing tires.

5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?

I enjoy time with my family, supporting my children’s sports and firing up the charcoal grill for a mouth watering feast. I don’t get out near as much as I’d like, but I enjoy golf and hitting 18 when I can find the time.
