Friday5 With Team Driver Derrick Harris

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to North Carolina team driver, Derrick Harris!

1. Ok we have to ask everyone this in our interviews, how did you get your start in RC racing?

I have always loved racing growing up, and I was looking for some people who had the same passion that I did. I would pass an RC car track literally about 100 yards away and never inquire of what was going on over there. I finally decided to stop in at G’s RC Raceway in Shippensburg, PA. It was April 2014 and the rest of it is history. I’ve never stopped racing since then. I finally found my passion was racing and people who liked racing just as much as I do.

2. If you have been racing for awhile, what would you say is the number one technology advancement in RC to date and why?

Being that I’ve only been racing just over a decade, electronics, batteries, receivers, radios are mainly the same. I think the biggest technology advancement is the evolution of watching factory drivers develop new cars in general. I’ve been with Tekno ever since I started so I’ve been able to see the maturity and how the car has improved in the last 10 years.

3. In your opinion what is your biggest personal win to date and why?

My favorite win would have to be at the Spring Sting in 2016 at Badlands RC Supercross. I was able to TQ, but on the first lap I made a mistake and dropped down the fourth right off the gate. I was able to find a way back to the lead with about two minutes to go and took the win. I really wanted that win bad because I felt like I deserved it because I had to work hard earn it.

4. To date what is your favorite JConcepts product of all time and why?

My favorite product would be the 1/8 S15 nitro buggy body. Ever since Tekno added wider mud guards to allow the wider body, I really liked that look and the feeling of it.

5. Besides RC cars, what other hobbies are you into?

I just like to be active. I hate not being busy. I like mountain biking, love go karts, anything racing related, I’m into fitness events now and the occasional Call of Duty video game with the buddies.
