2025 ROAR 1/8th Off-Road Nationals JConcepts Team Report

The JConcepts team headed all the way to Texas for the 2025 ROAR 1/8th Off-Road Nationals hosted by Thornhill Racing Circuit.

This would be the first event combining all 4 1/8th off-road classes including Nitro Buggy, Ebuggy, Nitro Truggy, and Etruggy. The event started on Tuesday with Nitro Truggy, Ebuggy, and Etruggy, and continued Friday with just Nitro Buggy.

All of the classes would have 4 seeding rounds, followed by 4 rounds of qualifying, with the festivities ending with single nitro main events and triple electric main events.

Tuesday Seeding: 

Tuesday kicked off with 4 rounds of seeding for the initial three classes, the JConcepts team quickly transitioned from Green compound Reflex to Silver Compound Relapse, Double Bars, and Dirt Webs which they would use for the majority of the weekend:

Wednesday Qualifying:

Wednesday had 4 rounds of qualifying for the same classes.

Nitro Truggy: 1st Jonah Wilson, 2nd Dakotah Phend, 4th Spencer Rivkin, 5th Ryan Maifield
Ebuggy: 1st Dakotah Phend, 2nd Brandon Rose, 4th Jared Wiggins, 5th Joey Bourdon
Etruggy: 1st Ryan Maifield, 2nd Brandon Rose, 3rd Dakotah Phend, 4th Seth VanDalen, 5th Phi-Long Nguyen

Thursday Mains: 

Nitro Truggy: The Nitro Truggy main was an epic showdown between Dakotah Phend and Ryan Maifield. The two would swap blows for the final two minutes of the event which Phend eventually coming out on top. Maifield would have to settle for 2nd. Jared Wiggins would find himself 3rd with Spencer Rivkin 4th and Ryan Lutz 5th.

Ebuggy: Dakotah Phend would take A1 and A2 in Ebuggy to finish the event up early, Chase Lemieux would finish 2nd with a win in A3 and Ryan Maifield would go from 8th on the grid to finish 3rd. Jared Wiggins and Joey Bourdon finished up 4th and 5th.

Etruggy: Brandon Rose would take a page from the Phend playbook and win Etruggy after A1 and A2 for his first ROAR National Championship! Ryan Maifield would vault up to 2nd after a win in A3 and Dakotah Phend would end up 3rd. Rounding out the top 5 was Seth VanDalen and Joey Bourdon.

Friday Seeding: 

Friday would be the first time drivers hit the track with their Nitro Buggies. 4 rounds of seeding would take place followed by a qualifier.

Saturday Qualifying:

All 4 qualifiers would be 10 minutes each which meant for the large majority there would be a pit stop. Check out the results with 2/4 qualifiers counting.

Main Event: 

Sunday would host all of the main events as well as an LCQ before the main. Out of 31 spots in the Semi-Finals JConcepts Drivers held 20 spots. After the LCQ JConcepts drivers would take 7 out of the 15 spots in the main event.

The main event would once again be a showdown between Phend and Maifield. Dakotah would lead the majority of the first half of the event before a pit mishap. The 2nd half was an absolute battle with Maifield arguably leading more. After Ryan shorted the triple, Dakotah would regain the lead with a few laps to go and not give it up to take his 3rd win of the weekend! Seth VanDalen would hold on for a hard fought 3rd just over a lap behind with Chase Lemieux in 4th and Brandon Rose in 5th.
