Friday5 With Team Driver Maddy Long

In this edition of the JConcepts Friday5 we talk to Virginia team driver, Maddy Long!

1. When did you get your start with RC cars? Did you bash your RC cars at first or jumped right into the RC racing scene once you found out about it?

About five years ago my brother got a Traxxas Slash for Christmas. Rusty (her father) would put out cones in the driveway, and we would compete on who could get around them the fastest. After a while the cones evolved into a track in our backyard. I thought is was really cool, and here we are today.

2. What class do you prefer to compete in today, and why?

I prefer to compete in 1/8 Electric Buggy because I think it’s easier to drive. I can drive it a lot smoother than the other classes, and just overall I have a lot better connection to the car.

3. It seems like in recent years more women are participating in RC racing than ever before which is great. Why do you think that is and what could be done to increase it even more in your opinion?

I think more girls are into RC right now is because of dad’s bringing their daughters to the track, and they see other girls racing, and it makes them want to do it also. I think one way to increase girls getting into RC is by posting other girl racers on social media.

4. When it comes to new products released from JConcepts, what are you most excited to see released and why?

I’m most excited when a new tire is released because JConcepts is always coming out with great innovative tires for each track condition which makes me faster on the track.

5. Besides RC racing, what other activities do you enjoy?

I don’t do much besides RC, but with the little free time I have I enjoy hanging out with my friends and going to the pool.
